I always like the look of a Ferrari shift plate, obviously the shift throw isn't as short as a Ferrari. I did a lot of measuring and pattern making out of 1/4 inch plywood until I got it right then 1/4 inch bass polished and chromed. Nearly impossible to miss a gear.

I just let this one go on ebay. It was really cool that it had the matching key chain!

Wow, I just saw this post, Thomcraft. Any chance you'd be willing to make another one of these or post up the schematics? I'd love to put this in my Roadster!

Thomcraft hasn't checked in here in almost two years. Shame though, beside the shift plate he did a really cool steering wheel mod. The craft in his screen name was well earned!

The original Datsun Roadster teardrop shift knobs are almost impossible to find. There are some repro's but I've not seen one as nice as the OEM shift knobs. I have a '70 2000 and sent my original steering wheel to Steering Wheel Bob in New Jersey to be restored. Amazing doesn't even come close to describe the quality of his work. When I got the steering wheel back, I called and asked if he would restore my shift knob, made of the same material. Well, I got it back yesterday and it's better than new. He's been doing steering wheel restorations for over fifty years and is a true Craftsman. His prices are fair considering the quality of his work. Google Steering Wheel Bob and check out his website.

A colleague's lunchtime machining work at NASA Huntsville, from billet aluminum, backed by Datsun Comp aluminum shift bushings.

Here's mine. It is getting a bit rough so I will be looking for something better.

Well, I don't usually take part in such activities, but, here is a picture of my knob: -

Pretty boring eh!

However it is what is attached to the knob that is good

A short case Nissan FS5W71B transmission :D :D

As a stealth move, I fitted an innocuous looking 4 speed shift knob!

What a difference a 5 speed makes :smt023

Thanks for the tip, Sid! I've been waiting for these to be reproduced. Just ordered mine.
