^^there is a coil spring on the rod that travels back toward the latch. But there's not a separate spring for the handle itself. I pulled on the rod, but it didn't seem to make a huge difference with the handle.

^^Also, should have mentioned it's a 68. I circled the spring I see in the door. That is the only spring though. Is there supposed to be one just for the handle?

Yes. Look at #93 in your diagram,
93 SPRING-ESCUTCHEON P/N 80674-10601 ALL QTY 2

#93 is in the window crank... My issue is north of there in the door handle.

The spring ends are captive by a soft washer. IMHO the soft washer is used to quiet the metal interface. The washer deteriorates over time, causing the spring to loose its preload tension and/or dislodge the spring.
Remove the spring and add a metal washer on both ends. Should solve the lever action, or lack there of. The rod should have a crimp on it to retain the aft washer. The aft end of the lever assembly is forked, which nests the fwd washer. Ive seen the spring push its way through the “forkâ€.
The drver side assembly wears out well before the passenger side, just like the door hinges and door stops.
Hope this heps ya.

Thanks pebbles. I'll take a look at it this evening.

The original soft washer was rubber iirc. Nylon would work, last longer and be quiet.

68 fan knob removal.
How?
The right angle screwdrivers that I have are too big. The blades are too wide.
Thoughts?
thanks

So... there’s this black wire with a female connector that comes out of the back of the hazard switch (next to the radio) on my 68 SRL. I assume this goes to ground — but I don’t see it’s companion wire. And it’s not listed on either of the schematics I’ve got. Any thoughts?
did you get it to work ? I had mine working until a relay went out . that was a year ago . now it's fixed and I don't remember how I had it working before ? if I remember right either right or left blinker had to be on and it would flash both when hazard knob was pulled .. I'm going to hit mine tomorrow and try to find how I did it b4. .

Two random questions for today:
Rear reflectors (<'70): did I measure correctly and the pitch of the studs on the back of the reflectors is really M5x0.9 (JIS fine thread)?? That seems crazy but it didn't really match up with any other thread size that well...
Rear side marker lights ('69-specific): Do they mount using the metal "clips", similar to the emblems? They just look to have two smooth studs. I ask because my car just had holes when I got it--no lights; Trying to fill out my notes here.
