Re: fan hub on water pump
I'm not sure what tool(s) I would need.
Sorry for delayed reply. I've been to busy to work on the Datsun, but I'll have time this weekend, finally.
Thanks!
Knowing nothing about press fitting, I have to ask, How would I go about moving the hub?Nissanman wrote: Tue Feb 20, 2018 6:19 pm Krispoulin: as mentioned they are a press fit.
If alignment is out you can press/pull the hub backward/forward to correct.

From page #26, add a snap ring.krispoulin wrote: Tue Mar 13, 2018 12:31 pm Re: fan hub on water pump

Thanks again, I read about that snap ring plan and it seems very wise. But, honestly, I'm not even sure how to go about moving the hub to the right position in the first place.

can't you thread a rod ? tap and die set ?mraitch wrote: Sat Mar 10, 2018 7:10 pm All I can think of is to find some small threaded rod that will fit into the springs/and the pins enough to push the pins higher. Mickey mouse, but given the apparent difference between a and b, cant think of anything else.
Still weird though!

krispoulin: You can use a vice or press to push the flange further onto the shaft: just be sure to use some wood to protect the pump body and a socket or tube to go over the shaft and bear onto the flange.
To move the flange forward I used a 3 leg gear puller which has a screw to push down on the pump shaft.
Just be gentle but firm and adjustments can be made

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
The overall length of the pin is not relevant - the height the pin protrudes from the case is determined by the location of the stop diameter on the pin. Think of it like a 1†long bolt. If one bolt had a head 1/4†thick and the other had a head 1/2†thick, both would still be 1†long but both would not go into a hole the same distance.Copterpilot wrote: Sat Mar 10, 2018 10:12 am Springs and pins are the same length. I also measured the thickness of the case and they are both the same. This has really got me stumped!

My mistake, I had forgotten about the 'stop' You are right, but other than the pins may be different lengths

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
Are nissan/kyb shocks gas charged? I think my car either has original shocks or replaced with oem nissan (kyb) shocks at some point. They are tired old shocks regardless. But i was curious about the gas charge because none of these ones push back when compressed.

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
Subject is too long to cover in a simple answer but a few things-
Google is your friend.
KYB (as most manufacturers) use some gas in their shocks.
None are full gas pressure only shocks.

Thanks greydog. So i assume the oe shocks should extend on their own after being compressed? They do not...time for new shocks i believe.

Did you swap the blinker relay too?Lorna c wrote: Tue Mar 13, 2018 3:40 pm why do my lights work , blinkers work break lights work but when lights are turned off , blinkers don't work . ?? Some old blinker relays will not work with LEDs unless there is a load. If you get a new blinker relay specifically to handle LEDs you should be good. Mine blinker did not require the upgrade but I did it anyway just in case the next LED in the socket does require it.
