Stock Tire Size

How old was the tire that blew out? If it was over 10 years old, I wouldn't be all that surprised especially if tire pressure was low.

It looks like Alvin beat me to the post on size. 195/75/14 is a pretty wide and high profile tire for our cars on stock wheels and as noted, an inch larger in diameter than recommended.

You'll get some sidewall flex when cornering so even it is isn't touching the inner fender on the rear when parked, it could when on the road.

Is that really paint on the tire? I was hoping it was a strange reflection. Paint on the tire might give you a hint of a problem.

Based on the advice received in this thread and other discussions on this forum, I question why you decided to go with such a big tire.

If it is paint on the tire, try to get your money back from the shop that sold you the tires before these are shredded too. Good luck.

no that's from my spray paint job . I got some black wall on some during a blowout and the price difference was another 140 . so back then I was anyway I was able to get white walls on all of them by swapping the black to white . and now I'll be a step up for a top finally . long story on mine but it's gone so been hit with that expenses clips went with my hardtop . so well u know those prices maybe . and then the big money will be done and I'll be able to get some nice I'm thinking wide whitewalls if they still make them . but no the tires do well . but speedometers off 10mph slow

this size was on the car when I got it . a couple tires r the same .as blowout tire .idk maybe if u see something weird let me know . i hear a quick rub going kinda parking lot speed. on turns .but can't find Any marks anywhere. so I was suspicious that the rub caused the blowout .

and I chose it because $ I had was only enough for all 4 blackwall tires . so I got some back to whitewall so all 4 r now and now sos on them got paint off to buy me time so I can get roof now instead of later .then get back to tires and go nice . but I must do one or other so idk . I'm just feeling it out to see what's needed most . slot of rain and I'm still driving it . soggy seat . lol . but I love this car . haha

I'm having a hard time following the story you posted, but that's ok. I'm glad you are enjoying your car. It looks like you are hooked, like the rest of us. I still think 195/75/14 is big but I'll leave it to others to offer additional advice. Check from time to time for rub marks just in case.

The speedo could be off for other reasons than tires. Maybe the tranny and /or rear end were swapped at some point.

As you tackle more projects, I wouldn't blindly trust anything previous owners did on a car this old. Check out the 'sins of the previous owners" thread...

The folks active on this forum have a lot of experience as longtime owners and enthusiasts and have likely encountered most the of things you'll come across.

I suggest starting a separate posting introducing yourself and the car and any history you know about it.

I've heard from my guy that did the motor for a year how the previous did monkey jobs . so thanks good tip . and the tires , they're temporary . hoping to hold me off until I can get top first . then get to put more money into tires if these hold me off a bit . I only had to buy a couple tires this way . if I CET a few months out of them I can save for wide white walls if they still make them smaller . then I'll go to closer to stock .

You know I thought about that too, maybe it is overspray on the sidewall from the spray painted wheels...but then wouldn't the white stripe have spray paint on it too?

Do you have pictures of the front tires?

this was blowout
this has me curious if the running caused it . I actually had a pic of tire before blowout and looks like some weakness was going on that the others don't have .. I hope .

im so sorry . ill be rereading the suggestions for tire size that was given to me . I'm not getting this forum yet . some of the posts I've missed . I'm using a cell phone for this and I'm thinking being unfamiliar with this it's making things harder for me to make sense being how I'm probably missing some comments when I respond . then I go back and probably make it more confusing . I'll try not to post and mess things up more . thanks for trying to bear with me . I don't know how the introduce myself on this yet or start another conversation to do so . the phone I think hides things to make it smaller for phone screen . I dont know yet why I'm so confusing . but I am . I read my posts and I got lost . so . sorry about that again . anyway my tires are temporary came with car except a couple I got to match whitewalls for now . I will be getting smaller tires soon . and using these suggestions here will be a big help . thanks for those . and I'm excited to speak with fellow enthusiasts when I have time to figure out this forum better . not much for computers so it's a chore for me . but love hands on work so the cars been fun . and almost done . (mostly) but I saw that the tires I do have are way too big . so that might be why I blew out , or the fact that they came with the car and have no date on it .. yep that old . but rubber looked good so I didn't think I had an issue with them but idk tires too well yet . I'm learning they should be a a date or they're really old ? if I'm understanding well enough . but I'll quit this conversation and try to start a new somewhere soon to introduce myself and car . thanks for your patience ... I am in the process of changing tires on my '67 1600
Current tires are marked 175/65/R14 and seem to fit well , maybe a little narrow todays standards see pic

I understand reading previous posts that 175/70/R14 fit fine, however over here in Europe they have disappeared from manufacturers offers, including Michelin Classic (which would anyway be too expensive) or Vredestein Classic

what I found available are Firestone MultiHawk 2 but dimension is 175/80 R14 88T
do you believe this would fit ?
