You could have just bought my new ones I had made as they install just like the originals and you wouldn't have to try to find flare adapters.

Although I have never tried to install them I do have some 13/16" 510 cylinders. As seen in the photo mine do have the slot to engage the shoes at the end of the cyl. piston.(tap on photo for closer view) The 2nd photo shows how they engage the shoe(this photo is just an example with an OEM cyl. not a 510 cyl. but same concept) If I understand your issue maybe you bought the wrong cylinders?
