My thought was 150 thru back side of Ojai to 33 to 166 to Tepusquet Road to Foxen canyon road to Ballard Canyon road becomes Chalk hill road becomes Attardag road.. Google maps says 3.5 hours so I feel comfortable that without squealing tires it could be done in under 3.. All paved and the samples i took in "street view" looked pretty good pavement..
So after today's canyon run ended at Gorman, I decided to prerun the 166 to the end of this route.. Oh my God.. I am running this way in. Tepesquet is one of those roads you read about.. This was just plain amazing..

I would be happy to run it again with a couple cars to get a better idea of how long it takes. Plus I want to see it with daylight.. But just a beautiful run.
If we timed this just right the southern caravan could meet up with the northern caravan at a winery for a lunch break. Tepesquet ends at Foxen Canyon Road, which is the route the northerners might be taking.

There are 5 or 7 wineries between where Tepesquet hits Foxen and the 154.. It works for me..

Yep and Foxen Winery is the one I was thinking of stopping at. We could have a nice lunch catered in from Bell Street Farm in Los Alamos.

Let's say we meet at the Nissan dealer in San Luis Obispo on Los Osos Valley Road just off the 101. They'd probably get a kick out of a few Roadsters hanging around.

So what time are you thinking of lunch? For those of us coming up from the south, the later the better.. But would love to figure out a way to meet in the middle..

Trying to get times from the the northern fellas but I was thinking around 1:00 or 2:00.

Awesome.. That gives us time to make it work.. The two routes I have scouted are either 185 miles/4 hours 15 minutes or 145 miles/3 hours 30 minutes...

Now it's just a matter of seeing if anyone else wants to go on either drive..

Yea - I put the post in the General Discussion area but nobody is responding. :x Hopefully the Northerners will get on board and let me know some good times to meet.

I think it will be tough to do lunch like you have suggested. Too msny variables of distance, late arrivals, breakdowns, plan changes, etc. I would keep it simple with having a route in mind then lunch on the fly, subject to the desires of the group at the time. I think the main idea is driving over eating ( I can't believe I said that  ) but there certainly could be more than one plan too.
I know there is the traditional12 Woodlake Bowl Woodlsnd Hills and an earlier 8,9 group as well. Not sure about the Northern groups.
This idea will likely evolve as the date approaches, I think 8)

I'll likely be driving the coastal route via Hwy 1 from San Jose. As in past years, I welcome others to join me. At the moment I can't commit to a meet up time in SLO or points south.

There is usually a group heading down via 101 that could make it down earlier.

Mike,
I've always wanted to do 1 all the way down once. Last year I planned on it but I couldnt make Solvang. What time and day are you leaving?

Ken,
I would be leaving on Friday. Last year we started rolling at 9am from the Los Gatos area, so may do something similar this year. I'm flexible, earlier or later, considering you may want to avoid the morning rush heading towards San Jose.

Last year we set meeting points and times in Watsonville, Carmel, Cambria and Cayucos and with some improvisation managed to get a good group moving together until 101 south of SLO. Let's see if anyone else is interested.

I'd like to find an alternative to 101 north of SLO on the return, but the annual Big Sur Marathon will have Hwy 1 closed.

I returned south once via Carmel Valley Rd......Its was a relaxing drive...watch out for the bicyclists!
I would try some of the "back roads" from Solvang to Paso Robles and than cross over 101 to the back roads between 1 and 101...e.g. Godfrey Rd, G19, Jolon Rd, Arroyo Sec Rd to Carmel Valley Rd

Carmel Valley Rd joins 101 just north of Rio Road....
