Good luck with it Garm! Let me know how it goes. If we lived a little closer to each other, I would run over and give you a hand.

Good luck Garm. Let me know how it goes. If we lived a little closer to each other... blah blah blah

Actually it is really fun once you get past the thought of "I'm rubbing my car with SAND PAPER" (if you're sanding and buffing) or "I'm rubbing my car with GRIT!". When the smooth shine comes back and you see how it works it becomes addicting!

Hey y'all, I made some more progress on the roadster today. I have been working on getting some wiring straightened out. For example my front turn signals wouldn't blink when the parking or headlights are turned on... now that's fixed. Other things were the amp meter and water temp gauge didn't work & no dash lights. I think I have them under control now.

Now I have a question, can you tell me what this is (see picture) and what it does? Also, do I need it? Its currently not hooked up, but I did find the wires for it today. I haven't hooked them up yet. Its on a 1970 SPL.

See picture below

Thanks for any thoughts.

I think it is called a "gulp" valve. It is part of the emission controls. Consider removing it if everything else is gone.

Thanks for the info. I'm not familiar with a "gulp" valve so I had to google it.. LOL.. Sounds like I don't need it since all the emissions stuff is now removed.

If you remove it, you will have to seal the attendant holes. An earlier manifold may be an easier solution.

Hi All, I'm having a little issue with my 70 SPL311. My dash turn signal indicator for left turn blinks really fast. Right side is normal and all light flash as they should.

Left.... dash indicator blinks at about 2 times normal speed. Left front turn indicator blinks at the same fast rate. However none of the rear taillights light up. I know usually that means bad bulbs, but the rears work fine for tail and stop lights, so both bulb filaments are working.

I'm guessing it might be a ground issue? I checked the grounds on the frame in the engine compartment and the one ground on the rear frame kind of behind the rear bumper area.

I tried switching the 2 wires from the turn flasher to the hazzard flasher and still no luck, it did flash a bit slower but still no lights on the rear.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dale

All 4 rear lights are brake lights on a 70? One should then cancel as the turn switch is engaged.
I have no idea if this cancel mode is made by the ts switch or a "relay" after the switch.
My guess is the ts switch is dirty.

Thanks for the input.

I'm not sure exactly how the 70 rear taillights are "supposed" to work? All 4 of mine light as tail lights. When brakes are applied, all 4 taillights go bright. When the turn signals are one , both lights on come on (both left or both right).

I will remove the steering wheel and try cleaning the ts switch. Thanks for the suggestion.

David,
It appears you are correct. I removed the steering wheel tonight and tried cleaning the ts switch. I didn't have any electrical cleaner so I sprayed some "Mass Airflow sensor cleaner" (it's all I had on hand) in and around the switch. It started working like it should. But it only lasted a couple minutes and quit again. After a 2nd spray it work for a bit again.
Tomorrow I'll get some electrical cleaner and see if that helps. I really didn't see anything that I could physically clean other than with a spray.

Thanks again for the suggestion, I'll see if the cleaner helps tomorrow.
