My Christmas plan for the Datsun is an RX7 LSD set up, modified emulsion tubes for the Dellortos, a custom airbox, and those 15 inch Cosmic wheels I have to negotiate the purchase of, along with new sticky tires... so, in other words, CASH MONEY GIFTS!!!

VTO wheels, on sale Black Friday, for those of you who have been THAT good all year....

How about a radar detector? The gift that keeps on giving!

I have dropped big hints that a "Valentine One Radar Locator with Laser Warning" would make my Xmas. I am sure there are other worthy devices available too!

How about an Air-Fuel gauge? An A/F gauge would make maintaining any roadster alot easier and improve performance too!

Traffic tickets here in BC (Big Cost!) are compounding. The first one costs $167 unless its excessive speed which costs up to $483 plus your car gets towed and impounded. Big $$$s. Each ticket carries points which impact insurance premiums. Two tickets within 12 months will probably take a minimum of $500 out of your wallet between fines and increased insurance premiums.

A Valentine V1 costs about $400. Seems like a good investment if you're on the road a lot and just can't self regulate your speed.

I used to travel with a Radar/Laser detector (Passport). The last ticket I got was for 37 in a 25 on a local, deserted road near my home... he got me with instant on as there was nobody else driving the road at the time, so no early warnings, just that "Yeh, you're about to get a ticket!" beep. A few months later my detector indicated it needed servicing, and I decided to relegate it to the trunk. Honestly, I have not missed it. They can be useful, but like anything they are not perfect. I am known to drive fast, especially when traveling distance, but now I try to simply watch my speed better on local roads. What really pissed me off is that about 6 months after I got my ticket I saw this nice orange flag on a nice new speed limit sign that said "35"... Guess they agreed (along with everyone else who drives that road) that 25 was just too slow. Glad to have helped pay for the sign...

Love, love, love my Radar Detector ( Passport), it comes on with the key. This newer model (and not even the newest one), stores speed traps, warns of red light cameras and speed cameras via GPS, and you can add your own landmarks and speed traps.
Yes, nothing is perfect, these do one of two things - warn you in time to slow down, or confirm that you are about to be ticketed - knowing this is useful to me and helps cut down on anxiety as you fly by an officer parked at the side of the road.
The camera/speed trap thing is an awesome bonus and reminds me to be alert - sometimes tickets are just due to forgetting or losing focus on routine drives - I see it as a tool for being a better driver, not (just) a tool to speed.

That is a very good point, as i have received a ticket (ok, twice... shit!) for a speed camera near Tacoma that I rarely drive by unless I'm going to a staff meeting for work at a different hospital (to which I am always running late, and thus the damn tickets!). My old Passport would not have likely helped much there as it is triggered by ground sensors, but the new ones probably would. As i think about it, that one actually was my last ticket... stupid cameras...
