Two questions: 1) is there a suggested RPM max and mileage period schedule to retorque the head? 2) to be safe as I bomb around, where is my reasonable redline once the break-in period is done? SU carbs, stock everything inside the engine
For inquiring minds I was VERY fortunate in that the only damage was the seat falling out...and yes, I am having all 8 seats replaced, and no, I don't know the history of the engine
1) Is there a retorque requirement?
2) check out some engine specs and dyno sheets. Max torque is around 4000 rpm. After 4400 its just making noise. I have been accused many times of short shifting.......

My mechanic Joe says no retorque will be required ... any other thoughts? (Upgraded to ARP stud kit)

Will do. New temp sensor is in and up till then I have been checking with a laser gun thermometer. The temperature has been within normal range.
Thanks!

4400 rpms! This ain't no '60s era V8! Redline is 7000, you're more than safe at 6000.

@lornac
make sure that you include the provision for a 'serious' plate under the body. the 'standard' holes have minimal strength - you need minimum 1/2 inch bolts to hold the roll bar in, otherwise it is mostly decorative and will rip out of the car in anything minorly serious.
Same, frankly with the seat bolts, they have little structural integrity as they are installed.
The miata bolts are 1/2 inch, the roadster bolts are way less than that.
If you are concerned with safety - consider these points.

Went to bolt my 5 speed transmission up and noticed the holes on the mount do not line up with the cross member.
My question is do I have the wrong cross member piece or do I have the wrong Transmission mount? Are all the cross members the same (4spd vs 5sp)? I know there is a difference just don't remember if its the mount or the cross member.
***I got this car in boxes and piecing it back together.

Waiting on the Isky cam and to confirm it is not coil binding, then a run on the ol dyno will be posted!

The crossmembers are definitely different, I believe the mounts are the same though.

Is there a good thread on carpet installation?
Things like keeping track of the holes for console, heater box and control box etc.
I guess poking an awl up the holes and carving out a little carpet after glued makes some sense. Just looking to learn from others where possible

I've have been using finish nails. I crawled underneath with a hand full, seemed to work just fine.
