I new rear end (RX7 w LSD) is sitting in the shop begging to be installed.

wheels, u bolts, torque rod, lower shock bolts, drive shaft, brake hose, done. probably take longer to bleed brakes than the swap.
dont forget the lube.

What, if any, friction modifier is being used in the RX7 diffs?

I use this stuff. It's easy to find locally, not very expensive and if it is good for 500 hp Ford diffs, than....

Thanks, for the starting point.
My old one has two bolts of different threads!
Both SAE I think. Neither fit the warner

I have seen multiple Transmission housings that have been stripped at the Clutch slave mounting points. I have re-tapped them a size larger when that happens, so the bolts won't be stock. Ideally one would tap both holes the same, but I have also only done one of the two, thus 2 different sizes.

Many thanks, I think the ball bearings are in and did not fall out; however, I have not seen them.
Is there a clever way to check for the ball bearings being in?

Were there even springs in there? Did those come out? My only suggestion would be to spray some PB plaster or other thin oil into the hole to loosen them up. You can also work the shift rod in and out to pop them out of the detents. They should come right out. Maybe roll the trans onto it's side and knock it against the ground.

Are you talking about the 2 pill shape items on this case? These go in between the shift rods so only one rod can move at a time. Keeps you from grinding the adjacent gear synchronizers. They do not have springs.

Okay, I have springs which go in under the two/three bolts on the transmission case. Bolt heads are shown in pic.

Someone claimed if springs were warn the shifter might pop out of gear. I also though there were pills or balls under these springs, but I have not seen them. Correction there are ball bearings under the springs and I have seen them.

If the weak spring theory allows the tranny to pop out of gear than the strong spring would be holding the shift rod which the shift fork is attached. This would wear out the fork, so if the transmission is popping out of gear the syncro is worn. I put small nuts under the spring for a tighter shift feel.

Interesting thought, I'll pick my best springs if I can tell.
I guess the liltle nuts could go on top of the springs instead of under them for the same effect.

Anyone know where metal part and the small o-ring go as part of a seal/gasket kit for four speeds?

I understand the big ring and seal shown are for the speedo cable.

I've haven't done a 4 speed but the 5 speed has one that looks like that on the tail housing where the shifter goes through at the detent pins.

Sorry I can't post picture from my pad, try mydatsun.com resto - tranny, there is a picture of that piece going into the tail housing.
