I can tell you it was annoying as can be. I just had no idea what was causing it.mraitch wrote:Aha
Thx Curtis - will check - also putting in new coil - cos it seems to make a diff when I make hard turns.
Will update.
I'm going to put in a dizzy and probably spend for rebuilt carbs.

I would also suspect the coil after the internal ground wire in the distributor.
"When all else fails, force prevails!" Ummm, we're gonna need a bigger hammer here.

MSD 8.5 red wires with very low resistance sold all over the net. Build your own kit where you cut to length and attach end boots and cap terminals. 50 Ohms a foot. Those sparks really fly!
Had a condition similar once where one of the old ign wire was arcing to the battery hold down hardware causing a miss. It's a close proximity there.

Might be worth checking the condition of your carb floats, if brass, one may have turned into a sinker.

Who knows the tread of the front axle castle nut.
I think it's 3/4 -20 UNS but I am not sure since I can't find any of them.

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
1) Is there a way of testing the fuel/voltage regulator??
2) Is there any substitute out there for the above??
3) Testing fuel sender - is that merely checking for resistance?
4) Is there any substitute for headlight relay?
Thanks

You can buy a NIssan one for about $60.mraitch wrote:1) Is there a way of testing the fuel/voltage regulator??

See this post. Scroll down a bit to see the Nissan one and part number.

I bought one and it worked. You can build it cheaper of course.

Peter, Google MSD Wires. They have 8.5 mm sets. They only come in red.

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
Peter, If you need a MSD Blaster 2 coil I can sell you one. Also had to buy a bag full of those 3 prong V-reg to build just one so I have extra I can give you if you want to make one like in the above Wiki post

The fuel sender is a variable resistor. Checking for resistance is itmraitch wrote:1) Is there a way of testing the fuel/voltage regulator??

There is a headlight relay article in the wiki.
I hate the VREG and created my own solid state version.
You were pointed in the correct direction by DEVO.
If your tank is not empty, you can place a 9 volt battery instead of the
VREG. If the gauge goes to the appropriate location, the VREG should send it to there too (or close).
If not the VREG is likely at fault.
The VREG is supposed to bounce around voltage wise to provide an approximate 8 volts DC on average.
I hate this thing!

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
Wanting to remove the tail section off my spare transmission to begin cleaning.
Step 3.) in my Datsun Roadster Book says
"Remove the two nuts securing the rear engine mounting from the tail shaft housing and catch the two
special bolts and set them aside for re-use later"
Are these the two nut securing the rear engine mounting?
... (rear engine term has me questioning this)
