I drove to South San Francisco. It was 37F when I left in the morning but it was bearable doing 75-80mph top down. Why subject myself to unnecessary wind chill? I was going to meet Ed, a new Datsun Roadster!

It was a beautiful, clear day:
Image

Ed recently acquired this '69 SRL, powered by a hot-rodded L-Series with Mikuni induction. It even has (imperceptible) widened steel wheels!
Image
Image

Specs on the L-Series:
Z22 short block bored to 89mm, KA24 pistons
L4 U67 cylinder hear, 35/42 valves, mild Isky :475 camshaft (.475"/270)
Dual Mikuni phh44s, Comp Intake manifold and linkage
Ceramic coated TEP header
280ZX 5-speed transmission
Lightened steel flywheel, Roadster pressure plate and clutch disc

We were able to hang for a bit in the evening talking Datsuns. Really happy for Ed as he's smitten with the car, previously owned by racer/enthusiast Troy Tinsley (troyt).

We didn't have time for a drive but I made a short video of our meeting, and Ed left his mark with a nice burnout

The 9pm drive home from SSF to San Jose made me miss my hardtop dearly but hey, it's part of the adventure when you #doitinadatsun 🥶

Starting 2022 off the right way with a New Year's Day drive!
Image

Full report here:
https://www.zcarblog.com/2022/01/01/eve ... -2022.html

On Saturday 1/1/22 I joined a group of friends for a drive through the Santa Cruz Mountains. It was a surprisingly large group (16+ cars) and everyone had a blast.
Image

When I left home and hit the freeway it was 36 degreesF...I think I figured out how to stay reasonably warm at low speed but 85-90mph cruising my fingers start to freeze
Image

We had six S30 Z cars and three Datsun 510s, all body styles!
Glenn's RHD, Fairlady Z:

Our leader Geoff's Lotus 7:

The recent rains left us with lush scenery. It was so clear we could see across to the Pacific. We took Bear Creek Rd to HWY9, 35 to alpine and 84 back up to Alice's Restaurant:

Lots of cool cars at Alice's. A Model A powered by a Flathead-4, hot rodded a bit:

Here's a video from the day:

Here's to more DRIVING in 2022!

Brother Ted,
Hardtop is being touched up:

40's is my limit. But more important, the wind noise topless is atrocious for capturing video of other cars.
Must. Get. Hardtop. Back

EDIT
it does look better without a top though :D

Hello Alvin-

Like you I hate the wind noise and all the air rushing forward between the seats. High windshield car might be worse. It would be pretty easy to add some plexiglas to your roll bar. I had to make my own mount. I now enjoy less noise and it is warmer too. The only real drawback now is all the extra noise I get when I am around Ted.

Sunday drive to Fremont for a photoshoot of this special Datsun 240Z
Image
You can read all about it here:
https://www.zcarblog.com/2022/01/28/per ... rqued.html

What really made this drive fun was using the roadster as a camera car to take rolling shots and video of the 240Z. The location was beautiful with almost mirror-like water, so naturally I had to take a few snaps of my car :D

My friend also joined us in his 510 Wagon, so we had the "trifecta" of Datsun:

It was an epic evening!
