Excited much?

You know what would be cool - if Kevin waited until Christmas to give you your car back. You know - like a really cool Christmas present? What do you think Kevin? ;-)

Cheers
James

Oh wow. James can no longer log in to 311s.org. And his credit is ruined. And someone else owns his house. And the dog looks sick. And..... What a coincidence.

^ Exactly.

I have booked the multiple HumVee escort with optional air support for tomorrow. And re-assembled the A Team to tag along in their van. (Mr. T was actually pretty hard to find.)

If Lassie were alive.... but I digress.

We're home. Car runs great. Took surface streets for the first 60 miles, then freeway for 30. 400 miles to go for break-in.

Got a little flat spot in the throttle, but it had that before. Looking forward to tuning soon. Pics and videos forthcoming (although it looks pretty much the same from the outside)

^ haha. Today? I drove another new project that I've been working on home last night... '49 Nash Ambassador!

Is there a thread for "what else do you drive?"

Garm, to pick up from the rear sway bar thread, after an engine rebuild I change the oil at 20 miles, 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1000. I don't take the motor above 4K for the first 500 miles, then keep it below 6K till after 1000 miles. The DNE (Do not exceed) 4000 rpm is a fairly common recommendation for most high performance motors. I've done the flog the motor from 100 miles on break in treatment once, and will never do it again. The motor lasted about 300 miles. 150 miles of freeway break in, a track day following the 150 mile trip to the track, and some autoX the following day. Yes, it was a U20, no it wasn't mine nor did I build the motor. Still, the rod bearings on #2 transferred metal to the crank, the rings chewed up the brand new set of pistons. That was back in 2006, and the motor still isn't all back together although its close. We were told that freeway driving was fine and after 150 miles we could beat on it because everything should be seated. Well, on tear down it was clear that the break in needed to be done more carefully.

I ran my break in procedure past Dave Rebello and he said it was solid. I've done it with two motors now and they have performed pretty well after being spun to nearly 8K rpm several times. Heck the previous motor had been over revved more than a few times (missed shifts ect).

When it comes to engine break in, I'll play it safe every time.

Will
