Hey all. What would you recommend for a redline on my 1600 stroker? Mikuni Solex carbs, roller rockers.

You should probably talk to the shop that did the machine work for you. They should know how to take into account work that they did such as blue printing and balancing etc.ZeroNilNada wrote:Hey all. What would you recommend for a redline on my 1600 stroker? Mikuni Solex carbs, roller rockers.

Usually the limiting factor on a pushrod motor is the valve springs. Redline is often just before they float. Other factors do come into play though

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
Apologies if it's already been covered, but there were many many pages of search results to wade through (like 500+ results)...
Anyone know the size of the body bolts that connect the body to frame? (this is for a '69)
I tried measuring mine but they all have a thick crust of rust and it was hard to get an accurate measurement.
It looks like they're either M10x1.0 pitch or 3/8-24...
They seemed to thread into M10 easier, but given the rust and the width of the head was about 14.3mm, it leads me to believe it's more likely SAE sized (3/8-24)--since it would only poorly fit a 15mm socket, but is pretty darn close for a 9/16 socket.

Mine is 8000 rpm per Racer Brown cam. Yours might be different.ZeroNilNada wrote:Hey all. What would you recommend for a redline on my 1600 stroker? Mikuni Solex carbs, roller rockers.
I think the cam more than the 2 liter crank drives the red line ... but not an expert.
Sharp says 1600's will turn 7000+ all day IIRC (in his manual to check though)

They're oversquare, so they certainly love the revs. Mine sounds like it's coming apart at anything higher than 4k though.

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
So if the spark at a plug when cranking is orange in color, does this indicate an issue?
I've read and been told it should be blue in color or the coil is weak voltage wise ...
Now what is the question at the bridge? What is your favorite color ... orange ... I mean blue!

Are spl310 axles wider or narrower than later models? Or the same?

Is it an unladen spark?msampsel wrote:So if the spark at a plug when cranking is orange in color, does this indicate an issue?

I've heard the blue/orange talk but I can't say it makes sense to me.
1. Unless you are in the cylinder, you won't really know what color it is under compression and with a fuel/air mix.
2. I think different lighting conditions and backgrounds while viewing may change what you see in a spark.
3. It seems to me a spark of any kind or color would light off the mixture.
4. Maybe there is a metallurgist out there but wouldn't the color of the flame (spark) be dependent on the material burning?

I recall the hotter welding flame from shop class was blue in color.
Not sure it matters, though maybe the orange is okay. Regardless I have found a reason to open
my wallet and get a MSD coil and CD unit. These will be unladen (I think)
