It would be a shame to have the vacuum clip removed. It seems like few of those have survived.

Agreed. I’ve never seen another one.spl310 wrote: Thu May 03, 2018 8:59 pm It would be a shame to have the vacuum clip removed. It seems like few of those have survived.

I had one and foolishly sold it. I have had most of the variants. The early SU cam cover with the rivet in the C was the same as the one you have. I have not seen the early version without the throttle cable clip, but suspect that it is out there.

Here's the cover for #00003. Can't help but notice how the clip is in the same place as Mr. Baker's but mounted 180 degree's out so does this just mean the guy attaching the rivots at the factory had creative freedom or is there a deeper meaning?

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
I think it means that that day at the riveting station, there was a left handed guy, and on other days, right handed. (Arggh!)
Recent backroads drive brought up two things:
1. Extremely bumpy roads at times (at spirited speeds) relieved me of my gas cap. ( a pseudo Ford Falcon-ish looking thing that was large andunique, if rather unsightly and out of scale with the car)
2. Shocks were absorbers in name only, "traveling rods" may have been a better name.
Solution:
1. from the TechWiki, the gas cap from the water cooled Suzuki motorcycle, and it fits great. (and no points deducted for having it mis-clocked...)
2. Rock Auto sells a set of shocks for $80, then KYB gives you a $40 rebate. 10/each?! Win-win.
Enjoy the drive.

Jon, I don't think that is the original cam cover for 00003. The earliest cars didn't have a throttle cable clip.

That’s pretty cool - I’ve never seen a clip mounted in that orienatation.caraddict wrote: Fri May 04, 2018 2:52 pm Here's the cover for #00003. Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
looking good ! .. wow .
mine has got me thinking to pull the carbs ! I think there's still a compression leak in the connections somewhere .. going to soak in degreaser tonight , clean then drive for a day and see what pops up again . oh and I think I lost my new used throttle control lever cable ,all of it . haven't even installed it yet and I think it's gone . been looking for a week now
oh mounted my amps to the box so they're not flopping around in the trunk . and wished I had the clear coat today like I was hoping . so in lue of it I'll probably pull the entire motor to find this compression leak . haha no .

We Started up my 67.5 2000. I threw a set of SU's on it just to get the timing done and to give it an initial start. The solex carbs should be done shortly which I won't actually put on until the body comes back from paint.

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
I finally got my hood finished and installed, now I'll have to change my avatar!
I have been painting the roadster with Krylon gloss ivory spray cans - cause I'm cheap. Since I hate body work, this has been dragging on for several years. Unfortunately, Krylon keeps changing the paint and there are now four different shades of ivory on the car! The Walmart paint lady assures me that although they may change the cans, the color never changes!? My experience says otherwise.
Anyway, I see me breaking down and getting that Harbor Freight paint gun. What could go wrong? I've been watching the YouTubes
