Thanks Greg. Doesn't seem right to be illegal if it is a mercy killing. I have used the forum for advice and I must say folks are very responsive. This mechanic has had the car for a couple months now. I told him I wouldn't get jumpy until Spring. He contacted me recently to say he was going to start checking it out this past week in order to get me a list of parts he will be needing. That's progress. It's a long story and I have cabin fever, hence the unkind threat to the old pos. But it's my pos. Ain't love grand?

Did you click on the photo to enlarge it? It looks to me like the rings around cylinder #1 and #3 are deformed. What causes that?

Another forum member suggests that I post a photo of the head, too. I'll do that a.s.a.p. and see you what people think.

Thanks!

Looks like a standard head gasket. The bores on them aren't round.

Here is a pic of a new head gasket. Not very round.

I swapped out the cut springs and KYB shocks that were in the car with Mike young springs and JT’s Bilstein shocks. Ride quality is vastly improved, car doesn’t bang on the smallest of road imperfections. I’m impressed with the ride quality. The cut springs were just under 8” tall sitting on top of a 1” thick rubber washer, not ideal but I will miss the ride height. Last pic was on cut springs.

I thought I had gotten the dash all loose before with a rigged tool but one was sent in crooked and was very tuff to turn until it was completely out so I made this one to make it easier .. I forget I have a welder ..haha worked like a charm ! all top dash screws up by windshield have been 100% removed now and since I'm not taking a drive down 101 because of closure , I'll be pulling the dash today to check out my trip odometer and clock .

Well it looks like it's 1 step forward and 3 steps backwards. Yesterday when I installed the 510 master cylinder I found a couple of leaks coming from the front calipers. Cleaned it up and put some fluid in the clutch master and decided to remove the wheels to address the leaks and get better access for bleeding the brakes. I had changed all the wheel studs and a forum member gave me some new lug nuts for my Empi's since mine were pretty beat up and a couple were stripped. Well, for some reason some the new lugs didn't like their new partners. 2 lug nuts messed up the threads, 1 broke the stud, and 1 spun the lug in the axle! So after an hour of trying all the ways I could think of to get the lug to bite so my impact would convince it to let go, out came the dremmel. Another 15 minutes of intricate surgery on the lug nut with a tiny cut off wheel the head of the nut was separated from the shank. Now the wheel could be removed and then the lug could be cut loose. Now it's getting late, so let's pick up all the tools laying on the floor and go in and order some new lug nuts. But wait, what's this fluid under the car now? Well, brake fluid of course, seems that the clutch master is leaking from the screw on the bottom. Ok will address that tomorrow (today), let's just measure these lug nuts and go inside and order some replacements. Hmm, let's compare these with the old ones. Well, now I discover that the shank on the new ones are slightly smaller in diameter than the originals, not good! Ok so we'll just order new ones for all wheels. Well guess what, the holes are 5/8in and no one seems to make 5/8in shank lug nuts. Seems only option is 11/16 in. So tomorrow I get to break the tires off the wheels and take them to get the holes enlarged. To add insult to injury the washers to fit the new lugs will be slightly to large to fit between the spokes. Oh well, more grinding! While I was expecting teething problems after a 5 year frame off, I was hoping to at least drive it down the drive way :( thankfully since I'm recently retired I can take these set backs with a grain of salt and not throw tools across the garage :D

Picked up the car from Top End Performance after having Steve work his magic on the carbs. Doesn’t even seem like the same car that I dyropped off two days ago, should have done it a month ago! All the good things I heard about their work don’t do justice to how good it really is.

Wednesday I drove two hours to visit my SRL and delivered some requested parts. Was told the intake manifold was warped. I never would have got it running right. So now I have EI, complete solex rebuild with evening of the intake manifold ; delivered headers, fuel pump, starter, rear axle bearings, sundry other parts from Dean. Now I need to practice patience. Anyone have any of that they can spare?
