For anyone who's still interested, there's an outfit in Arkansas called Williamson's who does all kinds of gauge modifications. They will turn a mechanical roadster tach into an electronic one for $200. Apparently they have done four or five complete Roadster gauge panel modernizations in the last year so they have some experience with these cars.

I have worked with them on modernizing old Sun tachometers in the past and the quality of work is very, very high. Also much cheaper than United Speedometer in Riverside (about half the price).

Mike,

That sounds very interesting, do you have any more contact info on them? Thanks in advance! TR

Hey guys - a little update on the differences between the z31 300 zx speedo cables.

The part number tells all:
3270258S17 - 17 tooth
3270258S18 - 18 tooth
3270258S19 - 19 tooth
besides that they seem to be identical.

When my brother isn't looking this weekend I am going to pull the pinon assy out of his trans to check - but based on TR's experience I am assuming it should be an 18 tooth for the DET/ KA swap.

Hope this helps a few of you.

It's not that simple. I bought the 18 tooth one as that is the one that worked for Travis. It's no where close to working for my SR20-DET trans. The gear is way too small. Theoretically, there should be no difference between the red top S13 SR20-DET transmission that Travis has and the one I have. Obviously, there is though. One of my winter projects will be to pull the sender from the SR out and see if I can swap the gear from that over to the 300Z sender.
