Posi vs limited slip

I have read that posi slips more (2 or 3 tire rotations) vs a good limited slip will only rotate about 3/4 a rotation. Also on a posi it only transfers about 20% of your power to the tire that has traction ve a limited slips locks the axle and turns both rear tires at the same rate. GMC is selling this point in their new trucks. They have a limited slip where dodge has a posi and they do a test that shows how ineffective the posi can actually be, then the GMC dances right through the same obstical.

I may be wrong but that is my understanding from 4 wheeler mag.

Hey Bucky,

Thanks for the tips! That is good info for anyone wishing to autocross...

I would want a limited slip because the initials...Seriously, I didn't know that Posi was a trademarked version of a limited...With the luck I have had with American made cars, I fear putting anything like that in the roadster...I have been wondering (only slightly) what a WRX rear end conversion would entail...Modern independant and limited, etc...

As for disks in the rear, the issue has to be one of laziness more than performance...If there is a brake that works great without adjustment, etc., it has my vote. I used to have (too many) Lil' Hustlers, the four wheel drums were a nightmare. Granted I lived in San Francisco and hauled construction stuff often, I was adjusting brakes monthly and replacing shoes every six months...I wished for discs (at least in the front) more than anything I have ever wished for (never got them)...

The only Nismo LSD I found was in Japan and was going to total $1500 by the time I saw it...Not in my budjet, either...TR

yeah, then that $1500 lsd becomes junk when you can't get the new clutch discs for it when you wear your set out.

You can still get all the parts for the LSD from NISMO. You can also set the amount of slip. Finding one is another story. Start looking in Junk yards for 70s Datsun trucks, I'm not sure what year but I think the early ones had 4.38 LSDs (I think, I know they had the LSD, Im not sure on the ratio).

I called in and bought that s14 motor off the classifieds today. I am going to pick it up this weekend. The car will be running now!

Thanks TR.

I hope it will go well. I was talking with the guy who owns (he lives in LA) and he started spitting out all kinds of hop up stuff for these motors. I guess there is an Alltech version out that has 200 HP, different cams and maping on the computer. He told me the s15/14 are the same motors in a DE except for the 6spd vs 5spd. I guess these motors are kind of the livin end for hopping up now.

How many miles do you have on your car/Motor? I contacted an outfit about a H190 LSD for the roadster. I will let you know what I come up with, I think we are both going to need one! Any word on the brake manifold?

The car has ~65K and the motor ~30K...

No word on the manifold, yet...That might mean he is busy! TR

I came across a site that has an LSD for the H190, but it has the truck side gears. How difficult is it to have the truck axles modified to fit the Roadster diff?

Here is a reply on the diff.

Alexi,

Posi-track units have not been available for the roadsters for many years. The only solution left is to weld a stock carrier. If you have a roadster LSD, we can install it into our 3.89 R&P aluminum H190. As you are probably aware, it has become almost impossible to find an aluminum case H190 diff. You might consider buying this one to have as a rare spare. I need to remind you that our diff has the larger 200SX & PU axle side gears. If you have a spare roadster diff, we can take the side gears out of the carrier and install them into our diff, so your axles will work. We would do this without charge if you buy our diff and send us your carrier.

Let us know if we can be of any help.

The alloy carrier is neet, but they tend to wollow out the bearing seat. It is better to use the heavy carrier because they are stout and don't crack or do other strange things that the alloy ones do.

The LSDs sold out 3 years ago, I know the guy who has the last one sold by Nissan.

RE:Mark Sedlack Developed Volvo Brake Adapter

Okay, there seems to be a little interest in the brake adapter for the Volvo front brake conversion. I spoke to my buddy the machinist today and he is willing to do a run of ten sets at $80.00 a set. If there were more people wanting them the price would come down. How much I do not know yet. Even at $80.00 he is not making much out of the deal after setups and machine time. He is a good guy and a great machinist. You can view the finished product installed on Mark Sedlack's V8 powered project here:
http://www.mildevco.net/chevypowereddat ... brakes.htm
It is a very clean looking install doing away completely with the two bent brake lines and the brass tee. So here is your chance. Any takers?

Steve,

Put me down for (4) sets of these and if there is not enough people ordering I will order more to make up the difference.

Thanks
