I'm not sure it would help keep our cars very secure if this were available to every nefarious hoodlum out there in YT land. haha So it can just stay unlisted except for people who find it here.

The latch and receiver mechanism is offset to the right( passenger side) correct?
Any idea how far from the lock tumbler?

It’s 1.25 inches from the center of the key cylinder which makes it 2.75 inches from the right license plate hole.

I used the license plate hole method with success. I found that a paint can wire handle was stiff enough to do the trick. That and after about 45 minutes and an abundance of "mechanics" words, it popped open. Pat

Which is why the wire is bent at 3 inches

Haha! Hi Sid. Who knows.
In this brave new world, I got plenty of time to work on the car now but not so much money
Btw, got trunk open. Thanks y’all. Bad part? Keys weren’t in it. So who knows where the hell they are. Oh well neglect of roadster karma I guess.

Today I opened the trunk and put some stuff in it and an hour latter went to add more stuff annnd...yep, trunk won’t open. Good thing I had the foresight to add an emergency release cable for the trunk when I did one for the hood!

Well, good to see you back anyway Roman, even if it is a fleeting visit! Add the release cable. I am sure that you have enough wire (guitar strings) that you could do that. May be a lucrative side hustle too!

Hello All, I've read through this post and many like it. Today I went to open the trunk on my '68 Roadster and instead of the hatch opening, there was a "pop" and then I couldn't get the key out and I couldn't get the trunk open. I had to leave the key in the lock to drive home. Once I got home I was able to force the lock to the locked position and remove the key, but the trunk will not open (and I had to throw away that key because it was bent...fortunately have a spare). I built the tool that everyone seems to use for this problem, but to no avail. Is there some scenario where the lock broke in such a way that the tool won't be able to pull the mechanism down to open the trunk? I came very close to getting a big drill bit and destroying the lock...but decided to take a few deep breaths and ask for suggestions instead! Another detail: the trunk is not fully down either...I can wiggle it some and pull up on it almost enough to stick a finger in the gap.

not sure of the dimensions, but there is also a grommet hole in the floor through which you might be able to get access.

Sounds to me like your lock spun and got jammed on the release, probably under the release if you can lift up that far. That’ll be a tough one as it’s jammed in the way of what you need to get to.
