I'm sorry all. I neglected to circle back and update the post with the result. Short story is - everything is back to normal. Somewhere on this post, someone gave me the idea, or passed on the idea, of using a socket upside-down to loosen the nut, since the bottom of the socket is 4 sided, like the nut on the back of the brake drum. And use an Allen wrench for the handle. It worked like magic as I was able to loosen the nut without any stripping. It was a life-saver idea. Cleaned things up and used the same tool to tighten the nut back to the correct level.
Most important, thank you to so many on this thread who gave GREAT tips, suggestions, and advice. I was out getting my car ready for spring when I can have it on the road more, and it occurred I don't think I closed this loop.
I'll most likely be shortly selling my little car. As much as I love having one, it has become clear I don't have the mechanical skills that I need to take care of it. And unfortunately it is not even in the top 5 things that I like spending my time doing. I read the datsun posts on other sites and feel so out of my league trying to be a roadster owner.
