Tried 472258 but the OD was slightly too big. Still leakin unfortunately. May try and hunt another tighter fit one down from a catalogue.

Have you checked to see if maybe the trans pressure relief valve is stuck closed? Very odd that numerous seal replacements haven’t solved this.

Yeah pretty weird. Been suggested maybe the output bush is worn, but was not able to get a spec on it.Bwk2000 wrote: Fri Nov 19, 2021 10:23 pm Have you checked to see if maybe the trans pressure relief valve is stuck closed? Very odd that numerous seal replacements haven’t solved this.
The valve cap moves freely, I don't think I can pull it off while it's in the car can't get the leverage.

Ya. Could certainly be the output bushing. Also, if the vent cap moves easily, it’s probably ok.
When you pulled the slip yolk, how did the inside look (underside of the cap area)? Any rust there could indicate a weak spot where it might be leaking through the cap. Quick fix would be to put some JB Weld on the entire cap surface (outside) of the slip yolk to ensure no leak through - Definitely a head scratcher.

Has always been dry there - just ends up on the bottom of the output housing and then gets flung all around lol.Bwk2000 wrote: Fri Nov 19, 2021 11:14 pm Ya. Could certainly be the output bushing. Also, if the vent cap moves easily, it’s probably ok.

still dealing with my friend here. I suppose the next step is trying to track down a new output bushing and checking the breather whenever I pull the engine. I have a BCA seal but it's pretty much the same style as all the ones that leaked.

old seal

new one I made with TWO napa seals - crackhead engineering at its finest. They start at 7mm vs. 11mm for the stock ones, and I sanded another half mm off each, then plastibonded them.

sticks out about 1mm when in place
We'll see if it seals any better.
I suspect it is worn tailshaft bushing but I am not even sure if I can get a replacement (maybe have to do custom machined..).

Re: Going to tackle trans output and pinion seals, tips here pls
A couple of ideas: could possibly be worn output bushing. If you remove the seal, take the driveshaft and slide it into the trans, then grab the end and see if it has any play in the trans tail housing. If so the bushing is probably worn. I changed one of these on my own trans long ago (wear?) Nissan p.n. is 32132-14601, maybe the same as 510, trucks, etc (similar trans.) The only problem w/this bushing is I had to have mine honed to fit the driveshaft, which means it has to be installed in the tail housing (slight crush on bushing) for proper sizing. I know ,it means removing the tail housing to do the work. This was w/a nissan part, maybe a different bushing might fit out of the box

I suspect that is it as well. Mine is still leaking tho not as much as before.Erock311 wrote: Thu Feb 10, 2022 1:34 pm A couple of ideas: could possibly be worn output bushing. Unfortunately as far as I can tell that bushing is NLA. So I would be looking at a new tailshaft most likely. It starts to get into how much do you want to spend on a stupid 4 speed.

aftermarket suppliers (bearings/bushings)? Have to estimate some of the dimensions, might be worth a try?

That bushing isn't rocket science, surprised that some Vendor hasn't taken that one up. There are a lot more 4spd on the road than 5 spd.cbez wrote: Thu Feb 10, 2022 1:47 pmI suspect that is it as well.
