Landmark day, Hit the sweet spot on the carbs and timing. Now, for the first time, the motor runs correctly. That means the air cleaner and hood went on for the first time since disassembly. Keith gave me the really cool woven original breather hose and clamps. I love it.

Now to assemble the rest of the car...looks okay for the time being. Here the driving season is still in full and I intend to begin wearing out the drive train... and start the fun part, all the myriad details that will never end... looking forward to it.

Here's an experiment I did to see how they would look. Black red line v. steelie. Sloroadster sent me some pics to convince that it makes the wheel disappear under the car. I tend to agree.

So right in the middle of installing the 3rd set of SU's, the lights quit working. But everything was working when we pulled the motor. Right t/s inop, flasher inop, no headlights, ad nauseum. Here are some pics for your amusement. Some of those things I didn't want to know but do now. Electrical schematics, tracing shorts, changing and cleaning connectors, wiping the silver rattle can overspray off of wiring so I can see the color, a PO nightmare. I don't see how it worked n the first place.
1st I printed all of Curtis' wiring diagrams (he also sent me some to print).

Oh thank you. That helps so much! I had schematics pinned up everywhere but guess what. After a while I started to see the flow. Curtis and Cktrap helped me make sense of it all.

Turn signal runs from fuse box through the hazard switch to the t/s switch to the flasher. Really? Am I having fun yet? NO. Backtracking power from the fuse box to the hazard then jumping to get a light? Not.

Continued searching found the headlight relay grounded onto the frame with a bare wire....
Okay so that got the headlights going but no tail lights or t/s so I started tracking from the taillights backward until I got power...this is what I found in the trunk....

How about under the dash? Shall we sneak a peek? Feeling brave? Love the UI wiring with no connectors, wrong color, splices....

Oh and did I mention that I bought these because they are the usual suspects? Tip of the week. If you aren't building a parts inventory, don't buy this stuff until you absolutely need it.

So after tracking and tracing back from the lights with these type of connections, it was determined that I needed a new rear wiring harness... you mean this one won't work? No says Curtis. Get back under the dash and keep tracing....

Well, after much hair pulling and gnashing of teeth, and Curtis talking me off the cliff several times, and install of a new rear wiring harness, and further tracking of where the power stopped, I was told, "it's the fuse box." Well I just happened to have an extra from a 70 so I cleaned it up, plugged everything in, and...
