Isn't it rewarding when you can do that!? I remember when a friend first buffed my fender to show me how it could look... it got beautiful, but he also didn't realize how thin the paint was and started to cut through to the brown primer. To this day, he still kicks himself for it, but I thank him every time because he showed what could be done. I've done a half dozen cars since, both brand new and older paints, and have always enjoyed the satisfying outcome (when you're careful!).

Nice work as always.

The clear on this car a fairly smooth. A little “seedy” in places and scuffs throughout. Pretty sure 2000 and compound is gonna get er. Hard as granite tho, DOH!!!
1980 miles so far.

A cool evening drive

Removed the grille. Removed the hood.
Abraded the putty to find the DATSUN holes.

Back drilled the holes by hand to remove the filler. Stopped just as the bit poked through.

Reinstalled the hood.

Using a tiny round file, I filed in one direction to clean the holes up. Test fit the letters. Touched up the full size holes with paint.

Thank you David. That's a pretty good fit for an off the shelf part.

I thought that being super lightweight, they may move around a bit. The nubs keep them in place very well.

Sanded and polished the leading edge of the hood. Adjusted the latch pin to get that drivers side down a bit.
Hood letters installed.

Hey, David. Do you remember what you used to attach the letters? Speed nuts? VInyl tubing? Super glue?

Is it just me or are all the “T”s just slightly canted to the left? Mimes the same. Maybe all hoods come this way. Regardless, it looks great!
