So I got some more work done. I put the last of the interior rocker vinyl in and installed the sound deadening material. I was then able to put the carpet kit in and restored kick panels. I also installed an aftermarket antenna and the seatbelts I fabricated mounts for earlier. Finally I installed a new clutch master cylinder. It was a good morning!!

So the front windshield was installed today. It went in flawlessly, which means I do not have to hunt for another one of these very rear pieces of glass. I was lucky to find a new weatherstrip in Mexico as they are even harder to find then a good piece of glass. The first week of April will see the motor and trans being fitted and hopefully started!!

So I finally got around to putting in the new headliner. I also used the same material to cover the rear wheel humps. It is a lightweight padded material specifically made for headliners. It is about a 1/4 thick and is light enough it won't sag over time. I cleaned the existing headliner and used it as a backer for the new material.

So we tried to test fit the KA24DE in the wagon and realized that we would have to cut out the entire cross member to even have a chance for it to fit. This and the fact that the trans tunnel and firewall would need modified has helped us decide to install a stroked R16 instead. There has been some modification of the cross member but not to the point of removing it. We will also modify the oil pan so it will clear the center link. Should get it back to Vegas and finish the fabrication by the end of May. I was hoping to have it ready for the Solvang show but it just didn't happen. I still need to get the upholstery done and installed. I did just finish painting the interior pieces to help break up all of the black carpet and seats.I also finished putting the graphics on it.

So I got the interior back and started installing it. I finished installing the headliner trim, sun visors and new rear view mirror. One more trip to Vegas to finish the R16 install and it should be a runner. I also had the radiator recored!!

So I was able to install the front seats and the drivers side door cards yesterday. It is still in the race trailer so I couldn't get to the passengers side to install the door cards. I will be taking it to Vegas this weekend so we can finish the stroker R16 and 5 speed install.

So we have done a lot of fabrication work to get the R16 to fit in this wagon as it was not a SSS to start with. We modified the oil pan and cross member and then fabricated motor mounts and a trans mount. We had a new drive shaft made to fit the 5 speed and stock rear end and we still have to modify the exhaust header and run the exhaust. Not to mention finding a starter with the solenoid clocked at 12 instead of 2 to clear the steering box! We did get a chance to install a set of Roadster comp springs to lower the front end.

If anyone has a lead in a SSS R16 starter we would love to hear about it!

On my RL411 I was able to swap to a H20 gear reduction starter without significant issue. The orientation of the solenoid was close to steering, but just cleared.
