According to Google, the LS1 weighs 497lbs while the Datsun 1600 weighs about 350lbs. You could be correct about the balance but I will be adding quite a bit of weight and modifications in the rear as well. I will obviously have to modify the rear frame for the axle, add roll cage, relocate the battery, relocate some of the electronics, adding small sub, etc. I plan on building this to enjoy the drive, not just for racing around.

Sounds like fun! You certainly won't be short on power!
Besides, I will need another reason to come out to the Peninsula now... I went to my favorite Chanterelle mushroom hunting woods that I have hunted since 1989 only to find it had been LOGGED OFF this past summer. CRAP! I was so devastated. It looked like a bomb had gone off... I walked along in a daze... all the beautiful areas we used to walk through, finding fungus gold, then blessing my co-workers with care packages of their favorite mushrooms, making an amazing mushroom soup, etc gone forever. Nothing but broken sticks and mounds of dirt. Heck, Chaterelles are $30 a pound in the stores, and we used to get pounds and pounds for 2 months from this high producing yet SECRET spot. Anyone else here who hunts mushrooms or similar can relate. It's very hard to find places that nobody knows, especially when the commercial hunters are out in droves.

I guess all things change. My only choice is to start over and see if I can find a new special secret place next fall, but they are few and far between... kinda like the '67 2000s that have shown up lately!

It's been a while since I've updated but I haven't don't much to the car over the holidays and I just started up school full-time again.
I've mostly been working on tearing apart the Camaro and selling it's unnecessary parts.

Parts that I did pick up for the Roadster:
2006 MX-5 IRS
Ford 8.8 pumpkin
370Z front suspension bits (which may not work in the end)
Kenesis 3pc 19" wheels (pictured)

I recently set the body back onto the frame to get started on the tube front but have been too timid of cutting into the body.

I will correct the rake once I cut into the rear fender wells for the widebody modification.

no nothing you're doing to it .lol. it looks awesome . she just wants to be driven and can't be , and so she's sad .

Those wheels are a few inches too big IMO, but its your car... I think 16s are as big as it should get, if you insist on a big wheel go with a 17" 19" is just extreme overkill

It will take some mad fab work but it will be all yours.

I know that it has been a long time since I have made an update but here is some of it.

Eventually, if all goes well and I get the car nearly finished I would like to get a race frame made based on the modifications that I've made but for now my mediocre skills will have to do.

I did end up selling the '67.5 to continue the '69 build. I didn't want to be responsible for hacking up a limited run car such as the '67.5. Even if the buyer parts it out, at least the parts would be going to better use than what was happening in my barn.

These are some of modifications:
Stock Roadster frame w/ MX-5 IRS subframe.


Frame narrowing inside the stock Roadster frame.


Frame narrowing attacked to stock frame and cut off stock frame. Those ears will be wrapped down and welded for extra strength.


Ford 8.8 and fuel cell.


Top rear IRS bracket. Only tack welded. These will be gusseted.


Top rear IRS bracket. Only tack welded. These will be gusseted.


Diff cover that I'm looking for.


Kevlar fiber seats.


APR mirrors


Rear Brembo GT calipers.


Front Brembo GT calipers.


Radiator & fans.


Lines, fittings, & battery relocation.


More lines & pumps.

Yes indeed, it would be fun to see if anything has happened. Gig Harbor is close to me and I have family there.

But "Gig Harbor" caught my eye... a couple of years ago I designed a logo for a really nice guy who opened a luxury service garage in Gig Harbor. It's called Gertie's Garage. He named it as a a play on the Tacoma Narrows bridge failure ("Galloping Gertie") and the lore of the giant octopus under the bridge...

I've never been there, but he is a great client/person, and is a great photographer, too!
