May want to make sure the roads will be open and clear with all the mudslides over the weekend.

that's a good point Mark. I'm ok with postponing until it's dry enough. I might scout out the roads this weekenddatsunrides wrote:May want to make sure the roads will be open and clear with all the mudslides over the weekend.

Sorry I'm late to this latest proposal! I can't join you guys on Sunday the 15th because I already agreed to an "oyster run" to Pt. Reyes with some other car guys. If weather shuts us all down, I'd be up for another try with you guys on another day! Cheers!

Re: Bay Area Fun Run!
Alvin,
definately check out the roads. currently 9 is/was? closed 5 miles north of Boulder Creek today when I finally made it to town for generator gas, only the fire department is allowed to use route 9 beyond that point.
Bear creek (the road I live off of) was closed in 5 places today. plus 1/2 of bear creek road fell off into bear creek about 2000 feet east from route 9 a couple days ago. bear creek road has had closures since friday. only local traffic in spots that are still marginally open. So you should not plan on using bear creek road as an alternative. parts of 35 and summit are closed and bear creek and summit/35 are just mud slides.
here is a pic of bear creek road by route 9. it is a little sketchy going around it. probably won't get fixed for quite some time. I just got electric power back this afternoon after 12+ inches of rain since Friday. lots of wires and trees are still down in places earlier today. might be fine for the weekend but you need to check it out. lots of debris on the roads too.
here are some road closures. http://www.sccroadclosure.org
it does not list route 9 for some reason but there are closed signs all over in town by the boulder creek fire department.
also http://cad.chp.ca.gov/Traffic.aspx. and then select Monterey for the communication center. they list accidents but also general closures in the line details of some of the entrees.
have fun. I don't think I can make this weekend. I still have some work to do on the datsun. I am waiting for a day without rain to run it up for the new rockers and cam. I might get a chance to do that friday or saturday but I would not be ready for a long ride yet.
I hope you guys have fun.

Re: Bay Area Fun Run!
I didn't know it was that bad to the point of road closures/slides. I'll scope it out before rounding you all up. I think anything in the Bay Area foothills will still be wet from run-off even if there is sun.svwilbur wrote:Alvin, you never know. by Saturday or Sunday it might be great conditions if you select the right routes. it is suppose to be sunny Friday to Monday. some rain expected tomorrow.

Out of town this weekend but down for next weekend. FYI we have had some road closures this week on highway one from mill valley to point Reyes due to slides and trees. Probably clear by now/ weekend.

Was just on Yahoo and looking at the pics, before and after the rains, and how full the rivers and more importantly the lakes are now. Not nice to get it all at once, but at least you will have some defense against the drought now. Shasta looks a lot better! I can't imagine what the rivers/waterfalls we explored last year look like now!!! BTW, if you have never explored the waterfalls near Shasta, do it... one of the best things about going.

Re: Bay Area Fun Run!
In Santa Cruz we were actually on strict water rations mid downpour because there was such heavy rain one of the main water supply pipes blew out.
