West Coast Plating in Oceanside. They are awesome and quite reasonable. They do all the chrome and metalwork for Les Cannady at ClassicDatsun Motorsports. I get all my chrome back on June 28....can't wait. Also, Les is a great source for any parts you may need.

Got the rims powdercoated silver with clear coat over that. Had the air cleaner cover done in red. Saw this done at Les's shop and had to do the same. It looks awesome in person. Buffed out the original mirror.

Got a ton of stuff done over the last two weeks. Got all of the chrome on and new seats in. Got all the hoses on the motor and started her up. Adjusted the carbs, also added in the final two rear brake lines. If I can get the clutch and brake lines bled this week, I should be able to drive this around the cul de sac. Then it's off to get a new exhaust system as it is currently very loud running just the exhaust manifold. Attached are the latest pics.

Well, I actually got to drive it this last weekend; very exciting. I did not take it far as I still need to get the brakes in order. Seems I have a bad rear reservoir on the unit I put in. I will re-build the original this weekend and try again. Anyway, I was able to drive it around the cul-de-sac and down the road a bit using the hand-brake to stop. The car is quite peppy and drives very smooth. That part was nice. Once I get the brakes done, I will see about getting a muffler. She is quite loud right now. Anyway, here are the latest pics.

Getting the exhaust system put in today. I took the car to Precision Muffler in San Marcos on the recommendation of another roadster owner. He said the guy was an ‘artist’, so I could not pass that up. I cleaned up the collar and pretzel bracket (hi-temp silver paint) so those can be used. I will be getting the flex muffler right off of the exhaust collar. Also getting the chrome ‘megaphone style tip’ for the resonator. I also told him that I would need the heat shield above the muffler to keep the carpet from overheating.

I am having some fuel/carb issues. I am guessing the lines were pretty gummed up as the carb mechanism is very sticky. I did the POR-15 on the tank so that should be fine, but did not clean the lines. Fuel also looks a bit dark in the filter. Hopefully this cleans out and improves over time.

Big day in the life of my roadster….I finally got it registered! It’s about time I guess. I have had it for 3 years with no paperwork, only the bill of sale from the previous ‘owner’. I have that in italics because there was no registration or paperwork with his name on it, so who knows who the last registered owner is. I did contact the one owner on the single registration paper I had and he did say it was the ‘owners’ car, so that was good. Anyway, car is all registered with new plates and title on the way. All for less than $200, which is great.


The new exhaust is great and tucks nicely under the car, very happy with that. Now I just need to work out a few electrical gremlins and I’m on my way.

I figured out the fuel issue; the tank has some junk/particles in it. I will need to flush out the tank and the fuel lines. Will also replace the fuel filter. This should get things back to normal.

Thanks! It was a big hurdle. The car was last registered in 1988 so it has not been on the road for 26 years. That's a long time.

Hey Motorman, lookin great! I have a car from the same year. Mine been sitting since 1991. If I can ask a question, what size are the plugs you used on the intake? My thread gauge doesn't seem to give me a correct option.
