HELP - Weatherstrip and Trim Photos - Late Model

Beautiful! It makes a world of difference, doesn't it?

It does make a world of difference. Whenever I read "paint behind the grill flat black"....I always thought they meant the thin sheet metal grill that bolts onto the chrome piece of the grill. Now I get it and wow I am so happy you two told me to paint it. If you don't know about it, like I didn't, you wonder....how does that car look so good?

Concerning the windshield post weatherstrip, I just removed the existing one from my car and the metal strip was in the "red" position above. The small 90 degree bend was facing away from the windshield. I am not sure if mine had been touched before or not but it was definitely crispy. It wasn't easy to get off because the previous owner had the car painted without removing any trim. This position seems to make sense to me.

My question is whether I need to apply some adhesive between the windshield post and the weatherstrip. There was definitely some used before on the leading exterior edge of mine. Should I use some adhesive to install the replacement and what kind of adhesive?

Ok, As a result of eavesdropping on this thread, I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on painting the body behind my grille. However, when I went through my car, which was originally white, there was no black paint on those pieces - just the original beat-up white paint. Also, I recall seeing an old black and white photo showing some SRLs coming off the assembly line, with the body color visible through the grille...
I'm not disagreeing the black would look much better, I'm just a slave to originality (happy slave). Any other tidbits to push me over the edge would be appreciated. I understand the $50k 1600 guy did it, but there was a whole lot on that car that wasn't original.

Spriso posted a picture of a 1500 factory photo that didn't have the grill support painted black. All of the original paint cars that I have encountered had the support painted black though.
