Ive read this 5 times. And all of the other carb links, You tube vids etc.

Still have to go back, every time I monkey with a carb.

When the going gets tough, I jump around the car,,,kinda moody sometimes.
You have accomplished a lot in a short amount of time, your work looks great, be patient, it will fall into place.

I would love to jump around the car, but the car isn't in the shop. That's a good write up, don't know how I missed it in the Wikitech. Any idea on good starting points for the various adjustment screws? Turned out x-amount of threads?

Got the engine set in and started, but it had to be "hot wired" since the wiring apparently isn't working. Needs a few things here and there, but overall I'd call it a success. I know the engine is running and nothing major appears wrong.

It does look good.
Tim:
I never have had to pull the grill, but do loosen the upper radiator support.

I did remove the upper support, figured it out about halfway through. Next time the whole body may be coming off for resto, not sure yet.

I guess I pull the grill so I don't damage it during my ham fisted efforts.

Alright, good amount of work has been done since the last update. I tuned my carbs with the help of a synchronizer and a/f monitor, reset my valve clearances which fixed my low vacuum at the first carb problem, new ignition switch after trying to get the old one freed up proved fruitless, original steering wheel installed, column trim installed (original was broken), new exhaust, new shocks installed, front fenders patched, and a new fuel pump installed. I had thought my old one I rebuilt failed when I wasn't getting gas to the carbs, but when I removed the fuel filter I found a mystery substance.

I installed the new fuel pump to be safe and kept the old one for a spare.

Don't worry, I will be patching the rust behind the fender. I'm just getting the fenders patched, eventually I will pull all the body parts off, fix the rust that's hiding, then paint everything apart.

Nice work!
I thought that the tip of the A/F sensor had to be pointing down for some reason? Also, how far does that stick down - looks easy to whack off on even a mildly low object?
Anyone with more experience with these able to comment?

I believe you don't want the sensor pointing down (especially straight down at the bottom of a pipe), they are usually installed at least 10 degrees above horizontal (say 10 to 2 o'clock position). Installing them straight down can run the risk of moisture contamination. I'm sure it works fine like you have it and if that's the way the manufacturer said to install their item then you can't be wrong. Great job on the fender patchwork...wish I had some welding skills to make those kind of repairs!

Ya all already caught the O2 sensor issue... if it is slip fit on the pipe you can probably unbolt it, turn it and be OK.

The 02 sensor is in the wrong spot but it's not a permanent install, just in there to set the a/f ratio. You should have them pointing slightly downward so condensation runs off of them. I had a duh moment when I mounted it, but it will still work for it's purpose and will be removed once I finish my dyno runs.

Thanks for the compliment, the fenders went pretty well so far. Couple low spots but very minor. It's a huge motivational thing to see that annoying rust gone, a few hours of body work to calm me down after months of engine worries and being "nickel and dimed" to death.
