Guys -

Check in on Scott's roadtrip! He is a stand up guy and spent a couple nights with us here in Calgary last week. We made an impromptu Roadster Posse up and headed out for burgers where we met a buddy with a Z too... then on to the Weds night car show here in town... If he is coming through your town - send a shout out to him and offer him a couch. Passing on the roadster karma!

Sent you an email Scott. If and when you get near stouthern WI let us know. I have extra rooms, a decent shop and spare parts if needed. There are several Roadster owners in the area. We can plan a fun run, BBQ, or just hang out.

Hi Everybody!

It was great hanging out with Dave in Calgary--the Roadster karma continues. :)

Currently, I'm in Helena, MT, and headed in the general direction of Yellowstone today. Hopefully it won't be too mobbed since it's mid-week. As of last night, the mileage for the trip is at 10,890. There's also a new post up on the blog about my adventures in Canada (and some more pictures from that car show that we crashed with the Roadsters.)

The car is doing well; all through Canada without a hiccup, and it's crossed the Continental Divide five times in the last week (twice in Canada, three times in the US). Still a great way to make friends and meet people, too--it's like travelling with a puppy. :)

Check out the blog for way more info than you really need about the trip, and thanks for all the support!

Best,

Scott

Think about the record this will make for Scott's grandchildren...

And Sid, check Scott's blog for some better pics of the Z.

The white roadster belongs to a long time Roadster vet in Calgary - Hoover. Hoover built the car up from nothing after buying it frozen in a block of ice. His attention to detail was awesome 25 + years ago, and it now shows the patina of a well loved car. The louvers are out of a hood from a 70's Honda Prelude. White face gauges were hand lettered by Hoover beautifully and bear his signature in 1/16" tall letters "HOOVER" across the bottom - super subtle without being arrogant. His rad is polished brass like a ships bell along with many other brass details in the linkage and carbs. Tastefully done, most looks factory to an untrained eye - although maybe a hint more british than japanese. The wheels are off a Triumph and Hoover had the springs arched custom to level out the ride. In person, the cars stance is noticeably less bottom heavy than stock in the back, without looking pimp (when the shackles are flipped.) The interior is burgundy piped with white, again done to a better than stock grade, but well broken in. It is a car I would be proud to own and drive!

My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting up with Scott on his amazing journey. He got in late last night, talked for a while and he crashed in our spare room.

He did a little maintenance while here. A quick oil change, general inspection, some lunch and off on his journey. What a great guy. Very sociable, knowledgeable, and over all nice guy. Anyone along his journey should not miss out on the chance to connect. I can't believe how low maintenance he was! I am so jealous of his undertaking. If you haven't yet, you should check out his blog. Some incredible photos.

I had a great time in Salt Lake with Skyman and his wife. They were really generous and accommodating, and it was great to hook up even more awesome Roadster people. Everybody has been really great and supportive, and it's made the trip that much better.

I'm currently in Denver, CO, headed north-ish today toward Cheyenne, Devil's Tower, the Dakotas, etc., and will be turning eastward again someplace in North Dakota. The car is holding up pretty well, although the rear main seal leak is getting a bit more vigorous, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to change out the input bearing on the transmission before long. (Tip: If you're still home at the start of your trip, and that little voice is telling you "You should really change those parts out before you leave", listen to it. :) )

I hit the highest elevations I'm likely to come across on the trip over the past couple of days at Independence Pass and at the top of the Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park, both over 12,000 feet. The car did well, although it was griping about the lack of oxygen a bit. It got happier once to got it back down below 9000 or so. Will hopefully have a new blog post up soon.

Garry Boone is in Cheyenne, I think. Other owners in the Dakotas. Would be cool if all oil changes and simple maintainence was done by Roadster owners.
PM your # to Scott if you are on the route !

Thanks Dave--I'm hoping to get there when the leaves are looking good, so...pretty soon.

General update: I'm in the western Dakotas, heading east today. Just under 14,000 miles so far. There's also a couple new posts up on the blog, since I had internet last night. Enjoy!

(And thanks to everybody for all the kind offers of lodging/help/etc--I'll be seeing you guys soon)

Hey all.

Scott just left here an hour or so ago. He is a great guy. If you are somewhere along the rest of his route I hope you can hook up with him. I encourage anyone who hasn't, to read his trip blog. It is a great read.

Yes indeed. I'm thinking he needs to write a book about his adventures, and his epic trip.
