what are your thoughts on dimensions/clearance? will it clear the crossmember and fit underneath stock hood? Room for radiator using stock mounts?

Well, the plan is to fit it as far back and low as possible. It should fit under the hood. I may have to locate an older aluminum valve cover and cut off the front high edge and lower it to fit, but i'll make it work.

I know very little about the VR6, bit the idea of a very narrow "V" 6 in interesting.
I am very interested in your mating to the T5.
Is there enough "meat" to cut a mounting flange into the bell housing?
I have seen conversions where they welded to "halves" together to mate.....and I have used conversion plates in the past.

Thanks

I have a T5 in my trunk right now that and will have the bellhousing by 8am tomorrow. Depending on the length of the shaft needed i may weld a flat plat to the back of the VR6 bellhousing and work off of that. The nice thing about the T5 is there is three lengths for the input shaft that are swapable by just unbolting a plate in front of the tranny. V8, V6 and 4cylinder have different length shafts. I'll post everything I learn and do to make this happen for sure.

Ok guys time for an update.

I'm still working on mating the tranny to a T5. the plan now is to create a adapter plate that can be used by anyone to mount whatever tranny they want to the VR6. It'll have the VR6 boltpattern with critical cutout and a pilot hole in the center. This way anyone can just transfer the bolt pattern they want on the plate. I have selected a compact starter motor that will mount to the plate right under the oil pan that way the starter is out of the way all together. Many T5s have an internal clutch slave that I plan to use. I will post everything up for you to see as i go. I plan to sell these plates to help fund my project because they can be used by anyone wanting a RWD VR6 setup.

Body work is still an ongoing project. I'm learning as i go and things are comming out very nice. My goal is as minimal bondo as possible, so i'm having to work the metal a lot in some areas that had hidden damage when i removed the paint and bondo. I have to get a new body panel from Scott in WA because the one he sent was for the anouther year. Good thing he offered to replace it without any hassle!

I'll try to get some pics up over the weekend.

I would think a T5 adaptor plate with both sets of holes would be a better product (more sales)

Kennedy won't do anything other than sell their kit I've tried.

I plan to offer a plate with the setup i use and one so that they can use whatever transmission they want.

There is a lot of chatter about RWD VR6 conversions.

Here is a factory plate for a Eu Audi/VW

Another T-5 conversion?

Yes i've seen all of them, but one thing that i hate is the starter is right in the way of the exhaust. i plan to have it out of the way.

chevy camero and s10 also use the t5... and those two are also different imput lengths than the ford trannies. the camero is a mid length shorter than the ford mid length and the s10 is the longest for more options

Of course you have seen them all.
I added them as reference so others could see what your talking about.....

I would like to see a T5 conversion using the 4 speed bell housing.

I was thinking about that the past few days. the bellhousing would help with fitment. I'm also looking at the BMW getrag 260 at the moment.

Ok after all the back and forth i have purchased a Nissan 240SX transmission for the KA24 engine. It's the same transmission used for the SR20det with a different bellhousing. I got it for $125 and the guy dropped it off at my work. the guy said he's push 450WHP through his now. I settled on this because we know it fits well with the SR20 swaps and it should hold the power and driving i plan for it.

This weekends plans are to pull out the good spray guy and prime and block sand the doors, trunk and hood.

OK, I'm slacking on the PIC I know. I'm normally very good about that.

This past weekend I got the trunk and the driver’s door 100% complete. Both are block sanded and have a double coat of good primer ready to be painted. I'm hoping to get the hood and passengers door done over the holiday break then move on to the body and get this project rolling a little faster.

As for the engine and tranny, the 240SX tranny is going to work out perfect. Thanks to all the hard work of the SR20 swap guys my tranny mounting is taken care of. As for motor mounts, that will be a simple task I’ll try and make a kit to offer this community. I have the adapter plate about 80% complete. I still have to figure out the starter location on the bottom of the engine so it's out of the way. I'm looking at using the 240SX throughout bearing sleeve with a VR6 bearing pressed on it. The 240sx bearing diameter is too big for the VR6 diaphragm. I may have to make minor adjustments to the pivot point but it should get the job done.
