Nice work, looking good. What color will it all be in the end?

Re: Flat dash conversion. A work in progress.
I plan, for now, for a white car. I liked the silver color I painted my u20 car, which is my avatar, but want a different color this time. I have a few ideas about dash, interior and maybe stripe treatment that could be unique but not overly flashy. Pat

Here's a photo of my flat dash conversion. I haven't secured the side brackets yet and am working on adapting the late model steering column.

Also a work in progress.

Re: Flat dash conversion. A work in progress.
I didn't use a windshield gasket to fit mine but used an old dash cover. If anyone would like to use the old cover, let me know. It's not pretty but it's complete and really helps me get the dash in the right location.

Re: Flat dash conversion. A work in progress.
O.K. flat dash swappers, what-ca think. I'm using my late steering column with an early column trim. The trim left about 1" of the turn signal assembly exposed and I want to cover it up for appearance and protection. Found a 3" No-Hub plumbing connector at the Depot, removed the metal band and clamps, leaving a rubber sleeve. I cut out a slot for the signal stalk and slid it over the column trim. Right now it is just a friction fit but is pretty secure. This might be a solution, about $4.00.

Re: Flat dash conversion. A work in progress.
The turn signal lever is on the right in stock configuration. I removed the ignition switch and am using an early surround to enclose the turn switch mechanism. Tried to index the column 180 degrees to move the lever to the left, but using the existing set screws, caused the lever to be either too high or in my lap. I think I'll leave it on the right as this is a unique oddity of our cars.

The signal lever is on the left in my car - and every low windshield North American Roadster I have ever seen. are you referring to "stock" as the right hand drive version??
Edited to add the "low windshield" modifier!

Re: Flat dash conversion. A work in progress.
I'm putting an early flat dash in my '69. Using the '69 collapsible steering column. When, in 1968, I think, they went to the ignition lock and safety column the turn signal lever was on the right side, with the ignition switch on the left side. I have removed the ignition switch and am using the early surround to enclose the late model turn signal mechanism on the late model column. Attached is a pic of my '69 U20 car's interior where you will see that the lever is indeed on the right.
