The 5 of us hopped on a red-eye to Georgia from San Jose, CA Wed evening
Had some breakfast Thursday morning at a Waffle House
Took a nap then went for a ride on Lake Lanier in a 400hp boat!
That evening we drove to Road Atlanta for the BRE Reunion which was held at the Chalet right on the front straight of the course. When we arrived we were treated to a private surprise unveiling of the BRE 370z!
Weather was very mild, and the venue was outstanding. The BRE paddock in front of the Chalet was filled with race cars, including the original # 46 510, a Mexican 510, restored 2000, Baja 240z, Adam Corrolla’s roadster, Ron Carter’s 240z, and others.
Les's restored 2000 racer:
sway bar, lowering blocks, watts linkage:
Ron's 240z:
Dinner was great and the panel of Datsun legends was extraordinary. John Morton was very funny and had some great stories. I was totally amazed that Bobby Allison was there too. Listening to each one of these gentlemen really gave you an appreciation of how groundbreaking and special their roles were in Datsun racing. Ronnie Day was a/v guy and I’m sure the DVD will be sweet. I took some short clips to give you an idea of what it was like. " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Everyone got to speak with the panel and get autographs.
I thought it was really cool to give away the center pieces to each table, overall the reunion was a success.
On Saturday we came back to Road Atlanta for some exciting races. We cruised through the paddocks and checked out the Datsun corral. I was so impressed with the number of Datsuns that showed up, not just locally but from 6-7 states away!
Some highlights from the paddock:
3 racing roadsters one had a slight crash:
check out the trick suspension/brakes! It had wilwood discs in back, and some sort of linked suspension
Corral action:
My favorite Datsun was this one:
The paint, stance, engine bay, cage was so clean
Here was a wild, tube-frame 510:
The late, Turbo Tom's blu 510 was finished and running:
Anyone know who's 2000 this is? #563
At noon it was Datsun’s time to shine in front of everyone. The race cars lined up to do some parade laps:
Best moment was watching all of the BRE-themed Datsuns do parade laps. But these were not “CA†parade laps with 35 mph limits ☺ And I even got to ride in a 510 around the track!!! Thanks Kenny! I love RA, I think it might be more fun than Laguna Seca. I saw 3-4 roadsters on the parade laps as well. I took a short clip of John Knepp passing by us in the #46 510, it was LOUD and freakin’ awesome to watch him drive in front of us: " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
John Morton was a guest driver in the Playboy MX-5 race, that was fun to watch!
We had a great time, what an amazing turnout of Datsuns. We returned to RA on Sunday for a short time to see a few races. There was a really cool race with muscle-cars and Datsuns: " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Enjoy the pics/videos, and let me know if you want full-size pics, there are tons of roadsters, 510s, and z pictures.

Al,
My apologies! You know I think even asked you what turn the car spun in, but everyone seemed to be real busy so I stayed quiet.
Thanks for giving us the chance to see a roadster in action!

Hey everyone –
Yes #563 is my Roadster and yes Woody bet me out of #1! His dang great chrome and powder coating…wonderful paint… attention to detail…. Frame off …. ☺
First – I want to apologize for not being more organized for SEROC at the Mitty. Brad turned it over to Roger and I and we got very busy in our lives. Roger is building Huddle Houses and I am working too much non-profit stuff – and now with NASA’s lack of direction my job is huge trying to tie it all back together for systems engineering here at Marshall.
The good part – SEROCers have come forward to help out so we can get the club back moving with events. I will be calling on you guys to help organize soon!!
The Mitty was great. I took my 31 ft travel trailer over and my son (who just came of active duty from the Marines) drove my Roadster. Unlike Paul who drove 1300 miles round trip to the Mitty, we only did 500.
I had Pete and his team sign my glove box door which is way cool. I will post pictures when I get a chance.
It was great to see everyone and hate I missed you Alvin. Looking at your pictures we had to walk right by each other. Name tags for next year….haha.
Again – thanks SEROCers for you patience. We will get it cranked!! There is a big demand for shirts and hats so that may be our first project. We are over 200 members now…..

Okay, so we have John Morton in the middle with Alvin over his right shoulder. Identify the rest, please.

I should know all the guys in this photo by name, but I don't...
The guy in the middle in the striped green shirt is John Morton, the guy in the plad shirt is Rob Fuller, Alvin is next to Rob in the back row, in the white T-shirt.
I took the picture with Alvin's camera, and my Z is behind all the guys in the photo.

Thanks for the picture Ron!
Those are friend's of Rob that live in Georgia, all 510/Datsun owners from the '90's
Ron I took a few clips of you making your way out to the straight for the photoshoot....folks this doesn't begin to capture how good(and loud) Ron's Z sounds...but here it is: " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
