Pat,
The fruits of your time and labor look like they were well worth it. Your car looks very nice. I can see your grin all the way back her in the mid-west. Enjoy it.

With Tom Prather's help (thanks Tom) cleaned engine compartment, replaced rear brake cylinders, removed carbs for cleaning, flushed/bled brake lines, installed EI dizzy, - finally getting down to getting Eliza back on road

Spent waaaay too much time cleaning/polishing/installing carburettors.
Took one carb 'completely apart' - thank god I had another one to guide me on the rebuild - there are some reaallyy smaall cotter pins involved - easy to lose and a bugger to find on the floor.
getting closer to firing eliza up.

All the new suspension is finally on the car! Spriso ZX Turbo brake conversion is next. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =3&theater

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
I discovered that the wires at the left taillight/turn signal looked like this:
After labeling every connection (previous owner's respray covered many wires' colors), I removed the harness from the car, unwrapped it, and discovered that the green/white wire (lights) was thoroughly melted in a few spots. Also, every wire in that rear section with it was melted at least a little bit, too, melding into a blob of copper & plastic.
Following the green/white wire eventually leads to the engine bay, then back under the dash and to the switch for lights. Yup, there were a couple of sections of melted green/white under the dash, too. Fortunately, that was the only melted wire under there. Believe me, I checked every inch of every wire... Fun.
So, I spent much of the weekend repairing or replacing wires and then re-wrapping the harness. I also checked all connectors for oxidation and cleaned them. Hey, now the lights work!
Time to get back on the road (to see what breaks next )!

I hear that! LOLTime to get back on the road (to see what breaks next )!
I had that same problem at the tail lights. As the wiring comes down it was rubbing on the lower edge of the rear quarter.
Glad you got it fixed
Linda
Sadly-Linda has passed away 2022. She was the 311's den mother and drove the first Rare-Parts ball joint project. RIP.

Good work! What fog lights are those...? Do you run them through the stock wiring, or through a relay (the relay being powered from the stock light switch)?krispoulin wrote:I

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
After getting my bumpers back from repair and re-chrome, I realized just how wonky the mounting brackets were when I went to mount them on the car...no bueno. So I ordered up some new brackets from Dean (beautiful powder coated ones!) and got the front bumper back onto the car over the holiday weekend. Yes, the turn indicator is missing...they are both being fitted with a new lens and gasket and having their housings buffed up. Step by step!

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
More small but satisfying stuff over the holiday weekend...the fuel filler neck and associated gaskets/weatherstripping replaced. The 46 year old rubber on the trunk floor and the rear body panel came off in pieces. The rubber fuel hose was starting to rot as well. I was pleased that the dirt and minimal surface rust on the trunk floor cleaned up well with some rubbing compound.
Old trunk floor boot removed... New boot installed... ...and filler neck cleaned up with new fuel hose and rear body gasket.

I installed a temporary emergency hood release. Hopefully someday I will install a permanent one: I have all the fittings, fixtures, elbows and cables. No pictures as this was an ugly thing. But it works.

Mine are called Do-Ray and they were on the car when I bought it, though I switched the lenses to amber. Wiring is stock.70-1600 wrote: Good work! What fog lights are those...? Do you run them through the stock wiring, or through a relay (the relay being powered from the stock light switch)?
