IIRC MBZ, BMW and Alfa all use those "dog bone" type connecter with a threaded rod and lock nut. Not problem to shorted. The early ones were metal with a wire clip, the later one were plastic.

I have a U13 and a L30 Altima dog bone ordered. I will cut and drill out the remainder of metal out of the plastic and epoxy the shortened rod into the plastic end. Each Altima model takes a different part # so I ordered both.
I measured the ball size of the mikuni and it is the same size as the Altima throttle link. When I get the rods I will post the part # and how sucessful I am.

I can't find a part number or a part interchange online. I'm looking to replace the oil pressure line that usually has the metal coil spring around it for heat protection. Is there a replacement I can get for this? Thanks for the assistance in advance!

They are avail from the vendors, NOT cheap. I made mine from AN fittings and a Teflon braided brakeline. Had to reflare the metal line for an AN nut. total cost about $35.00 and will last forever.
If you have an original, you can get it redone at a hydraulic hose shop. Save the metal spring/cover and reinstall.

Thanks a bunch! I think I'll get it redone. I can't afford the $168+ for a new one :(

Cigarette lighter

The cigarette lighter for my '68 came apart yesterday while I was cleaning the interior. The handle top, with its chrome ring, separated from the "gets hot" part (GH) of the assembly.

Anyone know how this goes back together (sounds simple right) The center section of th GH assy has 4 tabs on the inner ring, and the handle top has a flat plate on the bottom with four slots these fit into. If the metal was soft, you could imagine pushing the two together and the tabs would curl into the slots and hold it together. But the metal is not soft, and to forcibly press the two together, I'm sure would break the plastic handle.

I've looked at the handle and it seems to be press fit into the plate with the slots at the bottom, although I have not clamped it and "cranked" on the little plastic handle to see if it unscrews.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

If you are talking about the part #31 in the diagram above, then the outer chrome ring actually is threaded into the aluminum piece that is behind the dash.
Otherwise if you are talking of the plastic handle, I think it is held onto the
par (gets hot part) by a small set screw.

A quick look at an aftermarket replacement should give you an idea of how it is assembled at the dash. I only have a 67.5 so I am not sure if it is the same on the 68 but most all of them are the same from this era.

Yes, item 31 is the piece. I'm asking about the "cigarette lighting part of the assy" In my case, when you pull it out, you get two pieces, a plastic handle, and the rest.

It looks like the handle is press fit onto the assy, not screwed, and I was looking to see if anyone can confirm that.

Not sure on yours, but on "standard" early models anyway there should be a small set-srew in the side of the handle. It's a teeny tiny regular screwdriver head screw.

Here's my stupid question for the day:
I have SS braided brake lines to put on my car. Since one of my calipers is off, I figured I'd go ahead and replace the rubber line with the stainless. How do I remove the rubber one? I've never replaced these lines before (I've done lots of calipers and pads and rotors and such). Do I unscrew the fitting above the clip? Or remove the clip? My new lines don't seem to turn, so I think I need to turn the part that they fit into, but I don't want to break anything.
Thanks.

Duff: the upper part of the SS line (where it fits into the clip) is the female side. The hard line coming down to the wheel well has a male fitting that screws down into the brake line. The clip welded onto the frame has a "keeper" that is supposed to keep the line from spinning when you do this.
