I went for a little drive. Snow is coming down the hillsides to about 1,300 ft. Won't be long now before have to pack the roadster away for the winter.

Like the the car and the background, and yellow has always been a favorite for me.

Sorry to hear the roadster is about to be stored, winter in AZ is the best time for roadster driving.

It's ironic that roadster season is just starting for msampsel and I and it's just coming to a close for Zogster. I took out my red 67 (#48) for a spin and her first time through all of the gears since the transmission rebuild. It felt great! I didn't red-line it but I did get up to 6K getting on the freeway :-)

I also let a photographer friend use #48 is a "seniors" photoshoot. It's seniors as in high-school seniors - not the AARP kind :-) Here's a picture of the photographer in action. She's going to give me some of the pictures once she's edited them.

Cheers
James

Impromptu backroads rally thrown together by gearhead group.
Mission Viejo (CA) to Indian Wells, via Idyllwild, Palms-to-Pines highway. Dubbed "The Sweatball Rally" due to expected triple digit temps, which were not much of an issue till the last 50 miles on Saturday, but rang true on the Sunday return.
- bone stock 69 MG Midget
- classic Mini with a mid 90's Honda VTEC drivetrain
- stock Triumph SPitfire
- BMW 2002 with Solexes and honking huge rubber (don't try to keep up with this guy)
- and a tag along buddy on his Japanese cruiser motorcycle, he had to coach a soccer game to arrived later in the evening (but has sent pictures of a Sawzall assisted drastic weight reduction program going on on his SPitfire)
Two things of note: (other than the visitor we had while reclining on the grass behind the abode we were staying in, see picture)

First: These kind of things are really not difficult to organize. With Google maps with multiple waypoints, and a reasonably priced place to stay (if it is an overnite), some predetermined meal stops for the participants to re-group (and possibly do minor repairs), it comes off quite smoothly.

Second:
I am amazed at how well the bone stock U-20 cooling system does in triple digit temps. Pushing her hard (4.5k rpms +), uphill, in triple digit temps, and pulling up to 190 on the gauge but no higher. Running a bit rich due to my relative inexperience in SU tuning? Yes, very possibly, and my MPG's show that as well, but what the heck, she's happy.

How does pebbles know I need to double pump to shift down into 2nd? Lol

And I have a camel straight hanging on my lip when I do?

Well the first line is partially true.

Been on a couple drives with that BMW.. Both car and driver are VERY smooth and fast.. Sounds like a great run, although this weekend would have been hot.

Drove to the Snoqualmie valley in search of a Roadster part today. 9-24-15.
Not the right part but the seller was a car guy with this strange fiberglass Porsche/VW RHD creation.
Drove 2 of my roadsters today.
HOW do I do that?

Took part in the Bay to Birdwood CLASSIC 2015 rally on Sunday the 27th September.
It was open for all vehicles manufactured between 1956 and December 1978, in substantially original condition.
http://www.baytobirdwood.com.au/

Teamed up with my lifelong friend Murray with his 1977 Mercedes 350 on what turned out to a simply perfect day weather wise: -

It was my second rally and the classics are run every 2 years, with pre 1956 vehicles on the intervening years.

1750 vehicles took part in the Rally which, according to the list of entries, included 1 x 1968 SR311, 1 x 1965 SP311 and my 1965 SP310.

Weather was clear, sunny and 24deg C with crawling traffic
My modifications to the cooling system performed perfectly, no overheating and only a few seconds of vapour lock.

All in all a magic day and car performed faultlessly :D :D

Last night I DROVE to a parking structure in hopes of catching the blood moon with the roadster. Unfortunately it was too cloudy to see the moon! I'll have to wait 20 years  I did take advantage of the structure for fun

On the way home I met this 80's 911 coming back from the Rennsport Reunion at Laguna Seca. Rad dudes! They said the car was from Kentucky and initiated a roll-on from 2nd gear...I didn't know these were that slow :D Good sports too

I walked out my front door and there it was in the not so cloudy Puget Sound region. Very nice indeed.
