Hells bells you guys are too high tech for me... I had to look up what the heck "FEA analysis" was.... You can bet when the car was initial created , mocked up in clay and so poor dude when to the parts bin to cobble the little scooter together they weren't thinking " Hmmm. I wonder what the drag coefficient of the English Sparrow is greater than this car"
Sorry I must be 2nd COVID shot and the beer tonight !! :smt003
LOOKING MORE AND MORE LIKE A SWEET RIDE !!
BEST OF WISHES !!!

It’s more about the African Swallow carrying a coconut that I’m worried about 🤣

I am hardly getting any days to dedicate to the roadster lately, and any progress is made about an hour at a time whenever I can sign off of work a bit early and before needing to get dinner ready. A little bit of sanding here, little bit of extra bondo there, and sometimes a bit of paint stripping. Currently, the majority of the body is getting pretty smooth. There is a little bit of wonky-ness on the doors, and I am fine tuning the shape of the rear wheel arches. They were looking a bit too round, so I cut off a bit of the back to trail it off, and added a bit of fairing compound to the top of the arch to flatten it out. I have also officially abandoned the direction I was going in on the front fender flares I just wasn't liking it. All of the foam, clay, and bondo was stripped off along with the paint, and some 4" metal fender flares were purchased after taking some measurements. Just taping them onto the fenders, it looks like they might just work. I'm going to trim them up, weld them on, and see how well I can blend them in. For the foreseeable next couple months, It will just be more of the same. Push it out in the driveway, make a mess doing bodywork stuff, clean it up, push it back in, and repeat. Slow going, but I'll get there eventually.

Wade,
I'm in the same boat as you ...."Work" keeps getting in the way of getting things done, not to mention yard work and rehabbing our kitchen.
Now the kitchen is finally complete, CINC-HOUSE is happy and i go the grass cut and I have parts stewing in parts cleaner/ paint remover. rear axle is pretty much back together. Just have to get the steely rims blasted and powdered while I attack the body ..

Sure ... No Problem... No Sweat.... ( more like no way in hell)
Cheers !!

They are certainly bigger than they need to be. I dont think I will ever drive the 225s up front to the maximum potential.

Most of my home projects are starting to wrap up, and the fact that we are sending our son to daycare starting in June means I might get more time during the week to attack this bodywork. I hope to have it painted by the end of the summer!

Cheers,
Wade

Just wanted to provide a small little update on the car. I have gotten really far with the bodywork. The hood, doors, windsheild frame, rear quarters, and rear tail light panel have been block sanded smooth, and are ready for primer/paint! I still the trunk to and the trunk lid to strip and paint, and I am saving the front fenders for later. A TINY bit more shaping on the rear wheel arches is left to do, but after that I'll be putting some color on this thing! I am so excited. The past couple of days, I have been fiberglassing the rear inner wheel-wells. I did this by using magnets to hold some fiberglass cloth onto a little lip that I left on the body while cutting the steel wheel-wells off. Once held on with the magnets i applied the resin, and once the resin cured, I added another layer that stuck out even further. I did this a couple times until I was able to bridge the gap between my fiberglass fenders and the original sheet metal wheel-wells. No only does this close off the trunk from tire pickup, but it also adds significant strength to the rear quarters. It was an extremely tight and hard spot to be adding cloth and resin, so there is some wonky-ness in some areas. I plan on smoothing it out with some epoxy fairing compound, and then coating it in some 3M underbody coating.

I purchased a roll of black textured vinyl that I will wrap the interior panels with. I attempted to wrap the dash top, but I'm going to be removing it and starting over. The vinyl has a bit of padding to it, and I thought that it would cover up some laziness in the sanding that I did, but unfortunatley those bumps and lines just transferred straight through. I used staples to hold down the little recessed area, and the plan was to cover that up with some sort of rubber pad, and use it as a little shelf to put stuff in/on. I don't like it, so when I remove the vinyl to sand down the base, I will be filling it and sanding it flat before re-wrapping it.

Not the prettiest pictures, but it's what I got.

It's a shame the top of the dash cover came out other than what you wanted. I ve seen a number of youtube videos of people using heavy felt as the sheet material and resign to make contoured speaker boxes. Then using bondo to even out the sanded surface to get it smooth enough to cover with vinyl.
One Latin gentleman is an upholstery wizard, showed how Not ALL Vinyl is easy to work with. One brands/types have a bias like cloth and can only be stretched / pulled to conform in one direction, so doing a radius or indentations tucks won't give you the results you want.
You must have been High as Hippy sortin' resin fumes with your head in the trunk !!
You used fiberglass matt, but do you need to put a couple of layers of 7 or 10 ounce woven glass for strength.

Your doing get work,!!! Looking GOOD!

Yeah on the top, I just didn't sand the bondo enough. I tried to get away with being lazy and the result showed it. Would you mind linking that video for the gentleman discussing the vinyl? I'm using the stuff that is only stretchy in one direction, and it was definitely difficult to wrap around the compound curves without bubbling up. The interior stiff might be something that I farm out to a professional. I would love to have stitching and whatnot but that is so far beyond my abilities. As for the layup of the inner wheel wells, I used about 3 layers of 1.5 oz chopped mat to form the base, and then used up the rest of my 3.6oz woven cloth from making the fenders, which equaled about 5 layers of that stuff. It looks thin because of how transparent it is, but it is plenty strong. I will then come back and add a couple rivets through the overlap of the metal and fiberglass so I am not relying on just an epoxy bond to hold it together. I can't wait to be done with all of the messy aspects of this car. I am really looking forward to having all the paint and bodywork done, and just focusing on the wiring, brake lines, fuel lines, and finishing out the engine bay.

Fiber glass is itchy stuff and destroys your lungs. I did the exterior if a 23 wood haul sailboat in the 'shade' in the summer with homemade "PPE" in 1975. Thought I was going die 😱😱

Was a great orientation for future deployments in the M. E. 😎
