I don't know if anyone has checked the weather, but I did this morning and its looking wet. Rain on the way down Fri, rain for the show Sat (30% chance) and rain for the return. I'm hoping the weather report is wrong since we are a ways out still.

Will,
The site I just checked - http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/b ... v_business" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - showed good weather for the Solvang area going out at least through Saturday, which I good since I have no top. By "good" I mean mid 60's-mid 70's , which I prefer over 85 degrees.

L.A. I supposed to hit 90 by Monday--way too hot for topless traffic crawling.

Anyone playing hooky from work on Friday in So Cal. and would like to make a drive of it? Denice and I were thinking of turning a 3 hour tour into a 7 hour ride and cover some of the 2007 mini IB roads?

Up Angelus Crest, 'round to Palmdale, across to Lake Hughes, then onto Frazier Park, along that Beautiful ridge..., NOT go to Taft  then come down the valley through Los Padres, side swipe Ojai and out to the coast near Carpinteria, obligatory stop to look at the Pacific and drink a refreshment (on tap or in the bottle). Then onto Solvang. Little to no traffic, crusin' speeds, plenty of seat time, and... I'm hoping for a sunburn.

Made a map when I should of been working.
http://www.mapquest.com/mq/10-U9J7xtL6bchRwkuh" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Let me know, we were thinking of taking off from the 210 & Hwy 2 around 10 am...or so.

P.S. Don't hold dinner.. I got a feeling I'll need the big bottle of Windex after this, if the car's going to be ready for Saturday.

Hey Tony,
Here is what a group of us are doing.

Riverside, Orange, and San Diego caravans will meet up in Woodland Hills at the Woodlake Lanes (Bowling Alley) Located at: 23130 Ventura Blvd. - Woodland Hills, CA 91364

We will be pulling out of the Bowling Alley around 1:00 - 1:30pm (after lunch) and heading to Solvang. Those that show up after that will have to catch up or meet us there.

When we leave Woodlake Lanes a group will be taken through the Hills around Ojai (I believe) and come into Solvang from the back side, there will also be a group going up the highway with those that want to cruise. I know there will be others that will want to go the highway and see how fast they can get there.
When we get off the highway some like to stop in Buellton for that good 'ol Andersen's Pea Soup.

Tony it would be good to see you and have you jump in with us.

Hope to see you there.
Chris

Phil,
As Chris mentioned, some of us will be going through Santa Paula and Ojai. Assuming we leave Woodland Hills at 1:30, we would get to Ojai at 2:15-2:30. If you are passing through near that time we could hook up then.

I planned on taking the 154 up and hitting Solvang from the east side. I saw a road on Google Earth that runs just east of the 154 and ultimately ties into it. It is called Mountain Drive/Gibralter road and runs throught Rattlesnake Canyon Park. Has anyone here ever driven this? It looks to be built for the roadster, but I don't know the condition of the road.

Todd.

I have take Gibratar Rd. many times going to Solvang. Its a great climb. You need to go slow near the top as its a popular "Hand Glider" launch point about 3/4 of the way to the top. W. Camino Cielo was part of one of the last "Solvang afternoon cruises" when we were still at "Park south of Solvang". The views ares are worth the trip.

I drove Forest Route SN25 "Gibratar Rd. east of Camino Cielo" about 10 years ago in my 4x4 Tracker.....lots of dirt and got to a point I had to turn around.

Here is Hwy 154 known as "San Marcos Pass Hwy". It branches from 101 and passes Lake Cachuma then to Solvang.

Phil, It looks like your thinking about an all day ride, too. I can meet you in Thousand Oaks and we can try out your map. Looks to be about a 5 hour drive. (my stomach chimed in, "plus lunch")

How about we meet at 10:00 at the same Woodlake Bowling alley?

Todd, it sounds like you're planning on going up near Ojai, then dropping back down to the 154, versus going all the way up to 166. About a 3 hour drive?

Maybe we do a 10 am meet for those who are dying to put in a few more miles, and the 1 pm meet for those that have more sense.

I hope to be able to meet up with you. Still a few things to iron out. LOL...Don't know if I will be in Thousand Oaks or San Diego for the start.

If the "late" group goes up Gibralter-Camino Cielo they should continue on Stagecoach Rd. Just cross 154 and make a right.
