I would be thinking 4-Link, Ford rear, Detroit Locker or LSD (an ARB Air Locker would be ideal!!) and really soft slicks.
With the 4 link, you could tub fit bigger tires, no leaf spring in the way, but the frame is nearby.

Re: 1/4 mile times?
It is a lot of work to mount bigger tires. The inner fender can be removed but the frame is so close that it doesn't do much good. The leaf spring can be relocated towards the center at the rear but you will need to remove the gas tank. The easiest thing to do is cut the fenders and let the tires stick out. Not pretty. but functional.
I ran some 8's in the 1/8 but I can't find the time slips. It was slipping and sliding all over. Now that I have better tires and have adjusted the three link I think I can get into the 7's. The motor wasn't running well because of some electrical and computer bugs. I fixed it and it was running great until the headgasket blew. I'm pretty sure I broke a head bolt or two. One new one snapped when I rebuilt the motor last year. I should have seen the writing on the wall and gotten a different brand at that point. I have purchased an ARP stud kit and a metal headgasket. Hopefully it will not blow another headgasket.

ARP and MLS is a great combo. I've never have a problem with this setup until 35+psi. Thanks for the info.
