Why limit the discussion to sand or soda? There are several other media types that work well for stripping paint GENTLY off body panels. One has been discussed (plastic beads) another is walnut shells. They don't heat the panel like sand and do a great job of cutting paint but not metal. Still many other types that have not been mentioned.

High school science flashback
Silly question, If you were to wash down the body with a mild acid solution, PH like vinegar, after soda blasting, wouldn't it react, the soda and acid neutralize and it works it out of the metal pores and any crevisses??
I need to blast a car this spring, was going to do the soda up till reading this. Now I'm confused again.

I'm just gonna stick with sand myself, just have to be careful with it and not focus on one spot to allow it to warp
