No No No, Rebello is just building the long block, the rest of the cost is for the "bolt on" parts and includes a dollar amount for my labor time. My actual out of pocket cost will probably be around $5000 with a few good used parts. That's the bad about U20's, between the timing set, oil pump and gaskets, that's almost $1500(currently) right there which I would be foolosh not to change considering the modifications I'm making. Actually, I feel I'm getting a pretty good deal on the engine work considering I got custom pistons, rings, and HD pins, bore and deck job, o-ring the block, grind the crank, resize the rods, modify the mains for better oiling, balance the bottom end, modify the jackshaft so it won't break, full 3 angle valve job with porting, new hardened seats, new valve springs, reground cam, time on a flowbench, and assembling the whole thing. Not cheap, I'll agree, but less than I original had planned. Dave's HP estimate was around 250 at the flywheel with (hopefully) no reliability issues. I told him that was way more important than max power potential. As I've said before, 200 at the wheels would be great. Plus, I can always slowly increase the boost if I feel the need for more, which I probably will.

You were posting while I was. I'm in Hollister too! Small world. Wouldn't mind checking out your project sometime. I'm out by Fairview and Sunnyslope.

I have a few friends wit these cars and they've spent about 20K on them ea. restoring them to oe. I have some cheats to save cash and not skip on the quality.

I kinda know what is in store for me. Plus Ive built a few Zs so I think I know whats up.

Ive spoke with Ben Pilla from Jim Wolf Tech about this and a few other engine builds I have going on. I have many parts left over from all kinds of things. Im using a rebuilt T28 from a VG33ET basically. Im going to go through the engine completely for sure. I like to do as much as possible myself so I wont be contracting Rebello. Although I will likely be dealing with them about the cam issue. I have several Datsun specialized machine shops I know of that have been in the business for a very long time I will likely pay them to do any machine work that I cannot.

From the few, about 10, roadsters Ive worked on the 3 center guage w/4 toggles vs the 2 center guage w/ 3 toggles the switch was in 66? I found 6 roadsters that were dumped from a local Datsun dealership 30+ years ago and now reside in a storage facility rusting away. They are pretty low odometer cars, but time and weather has taken its toll. They appear to be original. 2 66 1600, 68 2000, 65 1500, 2 67 1600. I have the 3 center guage w/4 toggles already aside with enough of the dash mount cut to do whatever.

I cant wait to find the BSP. That sounds great. I have take a few of these cars apart and know what to expect. I have something like 25 gals of bolts, nuts, screws, washers, and stuff from Zcars. Litterly like five full 5 gal buckets o crud. I know I have more in my storage as well. I always keep that stuff. Maybe one day Ill make a fortune in steel. LOL!

I kinda get the idea that its going to cost a lot to build the engine right. IT could easily cost $8K. I already have the Mega Squirt, but no spark yet. $20 GM Flame Thrower on the way. Thatll pep up the ignition. I have the NPR intercooler already. Rebuilt T28. I have one of those $10 ebay T3 flanges and an extra header for now. I have access to a CNC, btu its not operational yet. Later Ill figure out something more perminent. I have the TBs and intercooler piping but no plenum. Radiator is rotten to the core... Long term project as I have money. I have a 71 240z sitting in storage that has been calling me for about a year now. 2.9L turbo stroker in progress for SCCA hopefully. Ive been working on her since I was a sophmore in High School. Ive got about $8K in it and its still a rolling tub w/ parts astrew throughout a 40' C-train container. Im still trying to figure out what would be a good brake upgrade. I saw post of a early Silvia that had a remote brake booster. That was interesting. I would like to stick to Datsun/Nissan/Infiniti parts if possible so Volvo, toyota, etc kinda out the window. Id buy a set of Willwoods and an Airheart master then call it good. Im kinda retarded like that so? In my head it keeps it easy to remember where to get parts from to fix any problems.
Ben is a good guy. I was pitted with him at Shasta last year while we were at Thunderhill. His 510 scoots. Where is this roadster graveyard? Any roadster is a good candidate for restoration. Your turbo U20 sounds cool, Dave Rebello knows his stuff. You might talk to him. Did you say you have a set of 50mm Mikunis? I happen to know of a certain car whos head outflows a set of 44s on the intake side. That said, if you go forward with the Turbo U20 make sure your 5 spd has a welded 5th gear, it will break with that kind of power otherwise. Brake wise, the stock brakes work well, just get a good set of pads.

Sorry, I find modern engine swaps revolting. Keep your G, R, or U series in your Roadster!

The Mikuni's are off of a motorcycle and they are 55mm ea. They are not carburaters. They are throttle bodies. I have a mega squirt stand alone programable fuel injection system. I am making a flange to bolt the throttle bodies straight to the stock carb manifold. I think they were off of a large Suzuki. Must of been a large 2 cylinder like the Boulevard or an older version of the engine.

I figured the brakes where big enough, but was a bit worried about the non-vented rotors getting a little hot. Having power brakes would be nice. I dont like driving cars without a good feeling pedal. At the very least it would be nice to get some vented rotors on the car.

There are 5 roadsters left and a lot of peices from the sixth. They are located in Morgan Hill Ca.

I found them like this:

I left them somthing like this:

There are 3 cars missing from the last picture as cant find a shot of them all. I cleaned them up and trew away all the trash. Salvaged a bit. They are a bit ugly. If anyone wants to pay a ridiculous price for em I can connect them with the owner.

Those are probably these I looked at a while ago.http://www.311s.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.ph ... craigslist

Those cars were pretty rough as I remember. Not a whole lot to salvage if those are the same ones. These are the ones off Monterey Rd near Cochrane?

Hey now, Up here in the Northeast, those are "some rust, restorable condition, needs TLC" Scary part is the steel on those cars is probably better than what is under my paint.

*IF* those are the same ones, the steel may be better but probably not straighter. I will be the first to admit my memory is bad but if those cars had something to justify the cost of them, at that time, I would have bought them. I think a couple of them had frame damage. Anything is salavageable though. I'm sure Ray can verify the condition. Don't get me wrong, there were good parts on them, just not many, IMO.

Thats pretty funny... I listed those cars on Craigslist for Preston the owner. They were pretty messed up. He does want way to much and there isnt much to salvage. Those are the cars at Land and Sea RV Storage in Morgan Hill. I worked a deal out to clean them up and list them on craigslist and ebay to try and sell them in exchange for a 280zx he had that I needed as a parts car for a customer. I ended up selling a few peices here and there. If you hadnt come before I cleaned them then you probably didnt notice all the extra parts. There were several rear ends, doors, transmissions, 1600 and 2000 radiators in good shape,

Those are some sad pictures  Almost like going to the pound and seeing those sad-eyed dogs...
Can't someone please rescue these poor forlorn Roadsters?

Linda

And maybe this should get transfered to the Classified for Sale thread.

WOW! You must have spent some time cleaning those up. I did see those beforehand. If you were the one showing them, you may remember me. I drove over there in my orange 240Z. Never saw the extra parts, just the carnage :)
