I think the one at a time would be a safe approach. Florida huh! The spare I have is out of a 68 1600. I am not sure what the gearing is in it but it would be a place to start.

My Datsun Competition Parts Catalog shows the limited slip for the Roadster also being applicable to the Datsun 510 Station Waggon. Both solid axle cars. I own a 510 4 door with independent rear suspension and can tell you that the two differential 3rd members are totally different.
FWIW, my 2 cents......

So I guess for 100% fit we need to send them the guts to a roadster rearend. It will not happen right away but I will tear my spare down and get it ready to send to them. Thanks for the input on the 510 rearends Scott!

The guys over on
www.grassrootsmotorsports.com forum are saying to stay away from Phantom grip. Aparently both GRM and Road and Track got screwed by them some how. Check out the posts on GRMs forums, they are mixed reviews.

Will,
Thanks for pointing out the thread on GRM. It goes to show you get what you pay for. I think I will steer clear of the idea now. If it sounds too good to be true it usually is. I have a guy here locally that can lock the rearend on my race car giving me direct power to both wheels with a bit of welding. My street cars peform well enough for me with the stock rearends. Oh well, it generated quite the thread on this forum too.

Hey guys, I just spent some time on the GRM forums, you can read it for yourself, but to summarize:
It turns out that Phantom never paid for advertising they placed in GRM.
One guy claims he drove a car equipped with a Phantom, noticed no performance.
Another claims a tiny performance gain.
Looks like the product does not perform as advertised on their site and that they have shady business practices...
The search continues...>>TR

I just got another message on the GRM forum. A guy named Chris, he likes his PG...Who knows? That is a few negatives and one positive...

Gear ratio info, Japanese LSD

I dug up some old road and track stuff for RPM vs speed data:
1963 1500 3.89Diff 13in - 90MPH@5150RPM (4th gear)
1966 1600 3.89Diff 14in - 105MPH@5700RPM (4th gear)
1967.5 2000 3.7Diff 14in - 100MPH@5000RPM (4th gear)
1967.5 2000 3.7Diff 14in - 125MPH@5000RPM (5th gear)
In all cars, 4th gear is 1:1. The 5th gear in the 2000's is .852:1. I think all of the 1600's and 2000's follow the 66 and 67.5.
Japanese LSD or JDM Limited Slip Differentials. I have found a aftermarket shop in Japan that has LSD's for the roadster. It is their house brand, not a Nismo. They are supposed to be very high quality, approx $1100 not including shipping.
Just thought I would update everyone, when I get more info, I will post it here...TR

Hello,
I have not yet purchased a LS. I am using all cash reserves for the conversion project. After I have had the car running for awhile, I am going to look into the LS again...

Oh I forgot to post this info that I got directly from Phantom Grip a few weeks ago. They said they don't have a Phantom Grip application for the Roadser at all.
My guess is that it may have to be special ordered.
Here is the company page with "how it works" and "testimonials."

However after seeing the streaming video of this product makes me kinda want a shortned Ford 8.8" or 7.5" solid axle.
The PowerTrax looks very impressive on this video. Checkit out!
http://www.richmondgear.com/02powertrax.html
FYI: Here is some Ford Axle info. A 79-93 Mustang 7.5 and 8.8 axle is 57 inches. It might be a 5-lug though. A 65-66 Mustang and 57-59 Ranchero and station wagon 9 axle is 57.25 inches. The 65-66 31 spline axles have the ability to be shortened. 28 spline axles cannot be shortened and resplined (they're tapered)

I am definitely interested in a limited slip of some sort for my roadster. I am just getting started on a new rebuild. I will be swaping in the SR20DET black top s13 also. The Shortened Ford rear end sounds very interesting to me. I love the idea of pick one up anywhere type parts. Anyone try this swap yet?

All,
A LSD for $ 300, sounds to good to be true ! There's a saying about this ! See the below web-site, you may want to look into this further before everyone gets on the wagon. But if its the real deal, I to would be interested.

All,
2000 = 3.70 factory ratio
1600 = 3.90 factory with a 4.11 optional ratio
Just something to think about, some of you may have used 1600's for donors and have lower ratios than the 2000 guys.
