Going the CA18DET route on my 67.5, motor is refreshed and ready to go. Also have a SR20 (non-turbo) on a stand as well, will keep for another project.

One of the issues with these engines is because of age (25-30 years old) that OEM parts are drying up as I had to order timing parts and gasket kits from several suppliers. Australia has an active parts and tuner community for these Nissan engines and you can get new and aftermarket parts shipped up... costs vary.

I always admired the CA-18, especially in turbo form. I understand that they were quite robust, though one has to be aware that it has a timing belt that must be changed on time. I think they are a great engine for a Roadster.

Yup, few reasons I chose the CA-18DET

1) Don't have to cut and weld the crossmember to fit like a SR motor.
2) It's from the same era as my VG30 engines that I'm very familiar with on my many 1990's Z32 300ZX. It shares electronic modules and sensors and I have a ton of parts from my many 300ZX engine pulls. Have redone the timing belt, water pump and idlers/tensioner/pulleys already, similar to the VG procedure.
3) It's been done in a roadster and I've had long discussions with a couple people here on 311s.org about the details and planning needed for this.
4) Got a heckuva deal on the CA18 and 5 speed trans from a guy who was starting a roadster swap until he discovered the frame was more rust than metal.
5) It looks like a mini RB engine (shallow reason, I know :D)

Plan is to get on the conversion this summer, that is if nothing else unexpected crops up...

I'll be watching! Sounds like CA-18DET for the win!
