Is there a metal sleeve that goes into the gear shift lever assembly?

Not familiar with this, so did some searching mit der Google on needle pilot bearing vs bronze bushing. Not sure it really makes a difference on our old school transmissions.Nissanman wrote: Tue Jun 07, 2022 1:06 am There is choice re pilot bushing.
The first is a plain bronze sleeve that appears to be what you have.
The second and HP saving alternative is the needle roller bearing type.
