So I looked over the one 4 pin and one 5 pin setup. Makes the hook up much simpler.

Here's the 4, 5 pin that I came up with. Change around a couple pins and make a couple wires and you're done. Eliminates the stock relay.

After figuring out how to use the VB harness I became a bit obsessed with one that will work with the 69-70 and just plug in. I made up the relay portion last night. After I spend some time on the harnesses I'm building I'll make up the headlight and power portion.

This relay plugs in to and replaces the OEM relay. Then you just hang the hood portion, hook up the power and plug it in to the relays and headlight plugs. When I get done I can make up a how to if you want to build your own. More work than just buying VB one though.

So if you want to make your own harness here's what I made with a modern ATO fuse. Needs tape still. 12 gauge and 14 gauge wire.

I believe I have eliminated all the errors from the drawing. I tested it and it works great.

I second that. I just spent some serious time last night downloading all the wiring diagrams that you have up for 1970. Holy crap. This is an invaluable fountain of knowledge for roadster owners everywhere.

Found them all did you? I aim to please. Wiring problems are a big enough PITA as it is and made 10 times worse if you can't tell where those damn electrons are supposed to be going.

Schematics have their limitations. In high school electronics class it was here's a schematic, now design a circuit board for it.

I have installed the VB headlight harness and dual relays, and tested each for high/low beam, and all is well. What I can't get past is replacing the factory relay with another 5 pin relay. I can't seem to figure out how to post a picture of my wiring, but I have 3 wires from the 5 pin headlight relay going back into the harness. Looking at the back of the harness plug from the 5 pin, the top middle is 30, the lower left is 86, and the bottom middle is 85.
When I pull on the headlight switch to PARK, the headlights come on (and shouldn't), and will dim/bright. And when I pull on the switch to headlights, it does the same (which it should). I sense there is something simple here that I am missing, as the park lights bypass the relay. I have pulled out several of the few hairs I have left trying to figure this out.
The lower left, 86, is the ground to the dimmer switch, which works.
I see the drawings of doing something with just 2 relays, but I'm where I am and would like to get this thing to work as intended. Constructive comments are appreciated.

I read you have a ‘69, if so, are you using the headlight switch wires from the VB harness? If not, have a look at Curtis’ modified schematic of both VB relays below:

The VB harness I have came with 2 installed relays, one for HB and one for LB. Power comes directly from the battery, and I added fuses in the supply of each relay. There was a plug to insert in the harness at the headlight. Rather than do that, I took the HB and LB wires to a 5 pin relay, which I assumed would replace the factory relay. I have attached the HB and LB wires to 87 and 87a, respectively. The 5 pin will activate with the dimmer switch, so that part seems to work as designed. I'm puzzled as to why the headlights come on when there should be only park lights at the first detent of the headlight switch.
