Thank you Steve.

I get that people need or desire an outlet to voice their feelings on whatever non-roadster topic going on.

IMHO 311s.org is not, and should not be that forum.

Places like Reddit (still not 100% sure what that is) and Facebook are around for that.

Keep it simple.
You are correct, Sir.

I couldn't have built the 69 SR20 swap if it wasn't for this site and the folks that contribute to it. It's nice to have a forum where almost everybody acts as adults. Please keep it.

While I'm on a roll can I request an instant ban on people that can't follow the simple rules?

I don't care if you are a troll looking to rile people up or you have "good intentions"...if you can't for the life you keep it about Datsun Roadsters then GTFO of here.

I do not see "disgruntled folks". I see ONE, 1, person who either has had more drinks than they should or is off their meds.

I visit this site almost every day and have made a number of friends BECAUSE I've met them through this site. I met Mike Mullen because he posted the LGGPR on this site so, in addition to making a friend, I have another car event to attend annually. I can't even start to express how valuable Alvin's pictures, threads, and swap insight have helped me over the years. There are too many wonderful people to list here.

The Board has a “Absolutely Nothing to Do with Datsun Roadsters” where you can post about food, hobbies etc. per the description. So that is a lie then? No topics except Datsun Roadsters? I think if you don’t like a thread in its non Datsun section, you should not read it. Somebody is reading it because it has 4043 hits....
.Maybe people can make up their own mind if it is too “ political”? Maybe they are, since they are returning?
Maybe a big warning: Attention! Non Datsun related content! Proceed at your own risk! .......
Or delete ALL the non Datsun content so that no one gets misled by the site descriptions.
All Datsuns, all the time, no exceptions, especially for Covid. We don’t care. OK , got it. Fine, I need to learn more about Datsuns than Covid, so works for me. :|

I was flabbergasted to read that we have some disgruntled members here! I follow 3 other forums (2 RV and an early Porsche 911 forum) and this is by FAR the best and most informed group. I’ve owned my roadster for over 48 years and learned more here in the first 6 months than I did in all my previous years. I like the diversity we have here when it comes to how each of us like to build our cars. While I make no bones about my preference for original or period correct cars, I also enjoy reading about how others are managing to get all kinds of drive trains and creature comforts in their cars. We have so many knowledgeable owners here who are more than happy to share their knowledge so that others can enjoy their cars without spending a fortune.
I’ve not spent much time on the Facebook groups, but I find them confusing and hard to follow, probably just me being unfamiliar with their process. I like that we have the tech wiki and stickies, along with a search function. I like that we have a mostly mature membership that doesn’t need someone to keep their language in check. I like that most members who sell parts do so at reasonable prices and are just as happy to help someone out as they are to make a buck. I can tell you that it’s just the opposite on the Porsche forum and they have many members there that are just downright rude.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that...THIS PLACE ROCKS!! Thank you, thank you, thank you Steve.

There is no more valuable resource on the internet for Roadsters than this forum. The ramblings and misunderstandings of the few can be managed, we ban them and delete their posts. I normally try to monitor all new posts neutrally as possible for a monitor, but with the holidays I have missed the last two days, and the resulting drama. Those threads make me ill, and I would have shut them down sooner had I seen it. I did shut them down now as there is no useable content. It is ridiculous that it got that far. There is no place for the political or the personal nastiness that was being spewed. This is a private forum, and one that is managed at great effort and personal expense by its founder.
I have been watching the "Stay at home thread" and had been debating doing what Steve did, lock it down. I tend to agree Steve, non-Roadster topics are probably best left to facebook or other social media forums.

311s.org has been a great help to me, as a source for parts, diagrams, advice, et al. My first Roadster was almost new, so I didn’t have the issues that I now have with my second, Piglet. Something as simple as a chart for thread count and pitch, metic or SAE, is such a gift. Saves a lot of time hunting for small things. Having one of these cars is a labor of love. And by helping each other with solutions, recommendations, counsel and so forth is appreciated. Seems to me this being Roadster centric makes sense, but I know some good jokes as well... Having volunteered in many organizations over the years, I am aware how thankless hard work can be. Things don’t get done by wishing them to be so. Putting the shoulder to the wheel makes things happen. And if some are disgruntled, dissatisfied or otherwise unwilling to be civil, they are welcome in so many other forums. The originators and moderators of this forum have put many hours into helping us, who would be stumbling around in the dark, otherwise. Please continue to moderate the site, and feel free to delete those who gum it up. We have too much work to do on these cars to spend our time sorting through distractions. And if anyone asks you, tell them you have a friend in Texas.

To those who moderate and administer this forum, a million thanks.
To those who contribute selflessly to this forum, a million more.
As one of those who learn from this forum and have not yet learned enough to contribute in turn , I have hope that someday I may contribute, and be of use to someone else.
To those who think that being an irritant is contributing, go be a nasty rash somewhere else.

Steve,

I echo Alvin's comments about the value of 311s.org and the community you have helped to build. Thank you.

I never even read the "@ home" thread, and had no idea there was an issue/concern.

Why is this even a question?

There are two Datsun Roadster forums of which I am aware, both are irreplaceable as founts of knowledge and sources, and as exchanges of been-there-done-that experience.

Do I live here? No.

But that has no bearing on my hope that when I put 311s.org into my browser, and email the Datsun-Roadsters listserv, they continue to deliver Datsun Roadster wisdom, and give me an opportunity to contribute what I can.

Yes, please.

Steve,

Please keep it going. This site is seriously helping to keep the cars going as it's a valuable resource. Some people use forums and internet postings to make themselves feel important, this will never change.
