Tranny mounts
Moderators: notoptoy, S Allen, Solex68
it needs a head gasket... it leaks oil in front between the head and the block near the front... and it needs a timing chain/tensioner.....and needs oil pan gasket..... and a gasket wherever else it is leaking, but it only has 47k miles (tranny leaks a little fluid, doesnt have second, and reverse is making a horrible noise)

energy suspension #3.1108
You mount it upside down from how the photo shows. Either drill 2 holes in crossmember for mounting bolt, or fabricate a bottom plate to match Nissan piece.
Here's a photo of mine, before and after. I changed to a 5 speed along the way, cut down and welded a spare crossmember. couldn't get it to link.

Don't get your panties in a bunch Evan. The problems with your engine (oil leaks) are SOOO minor compared to what you are planning. I know that you dig the small block Chevy, and more power to you for that, but swapping is not an afternoon thing like you make it out to be. I had a Roadster that someone had started clearancing for a SBC, and they gave up. A lot of stuff was gone, and the engine was no where near getting the hood shut. Like I have said before, the SBF is a more compact, lighter motor, but even at that, it takes a LOT of work to get it in and have the hood shut. For some inspiration look at this site:

My suggestion is to a) replace the headgasket, upper chain and upper tensioner in the U20. b) FIX THE TRANSMISSION before it grenades (it is coming), c) start up a collection for the "Help Evan Buy A Case Of Primer" fund. d) chill and enjoy the ride!

I saw that roadster.... it is sweet, and im not opposed to a ford. I have a friend that just built a 13 second 302 for $900.... so I have the hook up!
I do realize that a 302 swap would take a while to do, but we are best friends with a guy that can fabricate and do all sorts of metal work(has the tools too). And a $170(?) fiberglass hood with a cowl scoop mounted on would take care of a non shutting hood, heck, around here it wouldnt look out of place to have no hood

Again, nothing is cheaper than the engine you already have.Import_sounds-of-mid-GA wrote:Yeah, but the 5.0 means cheaper repairs, more power, and again i say cheaper repairs

And honestly, if all you want is cheap, engine swaps ain't the way to get there either...

I honestly didn't see anyone cutting you down... Just trying to keep your options realistic. No matter how simple you think an engine swap is, it will always take twice as much time and three times as much money as you think to do the job right.Import_sounds-of-mid-GA wrote:Its amazing how hard it is for some of yall to agree with someones idea, not discourage a person, or cut someone down....
it almost makes me wanna go register at a honda forum, i mean, i have never seen them do all that
Don't get around much, do you?

72 302s are fairly emasculated, but if the engine is a good runner, there are easy fixes to bring it back to life. I have a spare set of early small chamber, pushrod guided heads from a 289 in the garage that I would sell cheap. That would give you a reasonable compression ratio, plus you could run either a juice cam or a solid lift cam without having to install guide plates. Even with the dished pistons, a new cam and those heads would bring that SBF alive. 4bbl intakes are not too expensive, and if you get the Performer, it is a low profile intake so you are closer to the hood closing without having to do surgery...

Who said Im "buying" all the cars and motors??? Maybe my dad has thick paper..... and whats up with the quotation marks around buying?? He doesnt steal them, or borrow them.67 1/2 1600 wrote:If you keep "buying" all those cars you could use that money wisely and "buy" parts for your car such as headgasket upper chain tensioner etc.
