In my estimation, any roll bar that does not mount directly to the frame at a minimum of 3 points is just for show.

It certainly helps strengthen the passenger compartment
That's why it's required race mode your toast if rolled without
You really need a helmet on though or extra thick foam covering ( which would come off instantly in a roll over )driving . I can bash my head into it side and top and have 1 or 2 X s. That should be the big question on it

True, In my case it is mounted to the floor pan. Still pretty worthless.
In a crash 200% better than without , unless you whack your brains on it ...padding or helmets needed.

Our dealership had VW and they ran a rabbit gt autocross race car , a service writer driving it
I went along a 311 barely clipped parking stop after he was confused on the course it rolled over , the roll bar totally saved the guy

I have seen a mustang that rolled over at the track, roof collapsed, and the roll bar uprights sticking up in the air. If it is not attached properly then it is of no use. Also, they are really made to use with helmets. In a minor accident, your body flops around quite a bit and seats flex and even 4 point seat belts may not be worn as tight as they should be for comfort reasons. Contact with the bar is possible unless it is installed pretty far back.
