Yes it's better than nothing but again...don't get too excited about it.
What is exciting about it is that it doesn’t cost $ 275.....but that is just me.... :D

It has a passing similarity to the 1970 gas cap that nobody likes either

Linda
Linda is that Suzuki locking cap out of Indonesia just for reference or does it work on 63-69 Roadsters? It has three tines vs two.??

Not certain that the locking cap you refer to in Linda's post fits an early roadster filler neck, since when you type in the Suzuki models that the non-locking version fits (e.g. ’77 GS750), they show “not compatible.”

Since you didn’t ask for my opinion, I will give it you :D . For the immediate term I would simply buy one of the oem Suzuki caps that Greg aka Solex68 showed in his post, and wait for Brian to offer the repro ones he referred to in his post. He is a perfectionist (see my review of his late model top latch sets):

viewtopic.php?f=39&t=30398

and he won’t offer any product that is substandard or will disappoint you, so it will be worth the wait.

What the oem Suzuki cap Greg pictured offers in the meantime is top notch chrome (does anyone actually think that a big four Japanese m/c manufacturer would put atop their tank anything that wouldn’t hold up under dealer showroom lighting?), and is at least as aesthetically appealing as a Nissan oem cap that is missing its lid.
Stay safe.

Wise words, no way I will need a gas cap before Brian's repo's hit.

Look at this one:

I bought one to see how it looks. Pretty darned good! Shorter body than the original, but side key like the original - slightly different key shape. Well worth the price!

I like that early Honda cap better than the Suzuki. Nice. Wonder if the key cover could be swapped in...
The 3 tine Suzuki may only work if you remove one tine. The 44200-23810 Suzuki from Parts Interchange works.

$60???
Better make a trunk full at that price. :D :D
Ted.
I am having enough made to make all Roadster owners happy!! They are stamped and not cast so they are not as substantial as the originals but they look the part, lock and are not $250!!

That unit is clean, the original Datsun key should work as well if you still have one. A bracket should be easy.

Bump. Any movement on the repo gas caps?

Hopefully Brian will chime in, but from an email we traded a few weeks back it should be anytime now. Of course with Covid all shipping is nightmarish especially coming from overseas.

given that some caps don't work with some inlets - why not change the inlet - same OD surely
