+1 on the valve seals for smoking. My car smoked like a dragster when I bought it, valve seals fixed it....
Lots of options for front pads. Check the Tech Wiki under Parts Interchange. Just got the front pads changed recently .

I've had good luck with "EBC Brakes DP2120 - EBC Greenstuff 2000 Series"
They are spec'd for the "1963 Jaguar XKE"

Big grin fun...... Looks as though others here like the greenstuff pads. I did find Axxis metal masters on vendor Paul Wells site and placed order.
I was a little concerned with the xke pads as they were for boosted rear calipers. Having said that looks like a number of 311 owners like em.
